Notre Dame and Showtime team up for season-long TV series | Inside the Irish

Seems like a step-up from what they've been doing the last couple years (Irish Media covering the Miami game in Chicago).

I don't mind it personally but I'm wondering if it might be a distraction the players don't need, or am I being too concerned? Bummer is I don't have Showtime in my package currently so I won't even be able to tune-in.

I think it's too much of a distraction. FWIW though I think the people who do the Onward Notre Dame series is connected with NFL films.

Wonder if we'll hear from Coach about this at some point... I mean, curious if the AD/University pushed this or if Kelly is semi-to-totally on board? He seems to be really conscientious of distractions so this kind of makes me scratch my head. This season looks very promising with our talent, would hate to see it derailed by off-the-field nonsense rather than on-the-field nonsense! Oh wait... I don't want any of that either.

A couple of points to ponder. One word that is often used to describe Kelly is "politician." While I don't think he had any direct say in the Showtime accords (had to be Swarbrick and the University brass), he knows that being in front of the cameras is not a bad thing, if not to promote the team, then to promote himself. We all know he has asprirations beyond ND and he won't be hurting his own brand by this kind of publicity. Plus, the exposure for the team may help in recruiting.

I think the offensive depth chart is a little more set at this point than on defense, although there is a likely two-deep forming there as well (not accounting for sub-packages where certain role-players will come in).

QB: Zaire, Kaiser, Wimbush (they're high on Wimbush, but I think the lean is to RS him)
RB: Folston, Procise, Josh Adams/D. Williams, J. Brent
WR: First team: Fuller, Brown, Carlisle (slot), second team: Robinson, Holmes, Tori Hunter (slot)
TE: Smythe, Luatua (mostly for blocking), A. Jones, N. Weishar

Its hard to believe that Kelly and swarbrick wasn't on the same page here. I think both know and love to promote ND football and both saw this a great way to do it. its just like we do 1 neutral game a year. Its all about getting the name out there. Both know that this is a Big year for ND. This year Kelly has a lot of pressure to win. no excuses for Kelly. He has everything he wanted.

Well I guess the hope can be that his potential distraction is a positive, in that it get's the team use to the pressure a little better.

Not to mention exposure is a positive. Alabama or the SEC doesn't have showtime at their door and neither does USC or Ohio State.

I thought Ohio St is on some channel. Are they doing a show like this. Im not sure.

Yea good points by all. I myself don't mind it I just hope it doesn't devolve, you know how kids are, see a camera... act a-fool.

Our depth looks hawt. Should be stout.

No doubt that there is a potential downside to this, but hopefully it can be used to let thousands of HS athletes see what we have at ND, which could help in the recruiting. Kids from Florida, Texas, california will see the campus. This can't be bad. Hopefully Kelly doesn't come off like an idiot.

yes this will help, i remember when ND was on TV all around the country and that was a big selling point now they came up with this. Trying to find that advantage or another way to show case ND. I like it and I can't wait. I know I will be watching it every tue.

Yes. Ohio State has something on the Big 10 network that is similar, but I am not sure it chronicles the whole season. Showtime was actually close to a deal last year on this show with Florida State. However talks broke down at the end. I am guessing it might have been them not wanting cameras around during the whole Winston fiasco.

Notre Dame is a polarzing force. Half the people that tune in are die hard fans. The other half are die-hard haters. That's why you never see any color or play-by-play commentators with any connection to the school. Its Pat Haden (USC), Mayock and Flutie (BC). Guys who aren't going to trash us, but aren't homers either. NBC knows we're going to watch. They want others who hate us to tune in too.

There would be a good number who would want to turn in to watch the car wreck, and then mock how "irrelvant" we are.
