..........Are increasingly finding their rooting interests divided by their interests in fantasy, betting sites, and such. At the barber shop today packed with the usual split between Cowboy and Washington fans when the conversation turned to who everyone wanted to see winning the respective upcoming games. Surprised to note the number of DC fans rooting for big games from J. Jones and others because they have them in one forum or the other. Question: Is this reason for concern?

I can't speak for others Sty but one reason I don't play any kind of fantasy sports is I only root for my teams and not for some other guy because I want to win my fantasy league. I also hated watching football with the guys I grew up with because I might root for Pittsburgh against someone and next thing I would hear is "hey, I have $500 on Kansas City" Hell I don't want to root against your money but I want to root for who I want to root for.

I think Fantasy has added to the overall amount of football fans but not to rooting for your home team. I am sure there are Redskin fans who play fantasy and still root for the Redskins and I like Kyle Shanahan a lot but I won't be rooting for him or Julio this weekend. :2cents:

This is the first year in 20 that I'm not playing FF. But when I did I never once rooted for my players over the Redskins. I also rarely took Cowboys or Eagles player as I didn't want to root for them. That's what happens when you don't play in big money leagues.

That's how I feel too. When watching skins games fantasy gets thrown out the window.

I don't let my being a skins fan influence my decisions in fantasy football so I'm not afraid to own Romo for example but I'm also going to root the redskins over anybody else.

I'm the same way. If my FF teams loses because Romo or any other Cowboy goes off I'm good with it. I don't play high money leagues though and being put in a position where I might have to root against the Cowboys is a reason why I play for free or minimum money.

Fantasy football makes every game more fun.

As for playing against the Skins, I cheer for the player to do well but the Skins to win. It also can help me get over our poor play...it can work as medication.

While I appreciate your great personal stories about the extent of your involvement in these ventures, my greater concern has more to do with these betting sites such as Fan Duel, Draft Kings and to a lesser degree other sites where exchanging coin is present. I just don't understand how a participant anticipating good fortune (a cash return) can then root against his monetary investment when faced against his/her favorite team?

Still remember owning Jason Cambell and Santana Moss and watching them hook up for a long TD late to win a game against the Saints. I about went through the roof.
