I have to admit that ranking was a surprise, wonder how it was calculated. No sacks and one penalty is amazing. Of course comparing his numbers, when he has help and blocking interior linemen, to Moses who is often alone against much better pass rushers, is totally unfair. And sorry, it can't be ignore that the run blocked went south immediately after Long replaced Lavauo.

Still it is a surprisingly good read and makes me wonder how he will develop with a real center next to him, assuming he stays at guard.

See...this is how you properly negate a player and show where shortcomings may be. I would question that timing. I would argue the run game went south with Lichtensteiger going down. In week 4, we rushed for 120 yards. Either way...it is interesting.

Game 1 162 rushing yards
Game 2 217 rushing yards

Game 3 88 rushing yards
Game 4 127 rushing yards (if you remember a lot of that came on runs by Morris in the final drive when the Eagles were expecting pass)

Agreed Ribeye for Lich was an absolute killer, he will gone obviously. But there was a noticeable drop off with Long as well.

I'm not sure how you can determine the drop off was with Lauvao when we rushed for 127 the game after he was hurt. Don't get me wrong, I agree, Lauvao is probably a better run blocker than Long; however, the run game set records for poor performance after Lich went down.

As for the Eagles game...5 minutes to go in the game, down by four, teams don't expect the pass.

I know a lot of folks want to blame this player or that player but how about scheme. Redskins started with a new line coach and some new blocking schemes. That may have had a lot to do with early success until there was film that could be used to scout them. I am sure some had to do with players but I wouldn't discount the early success due to scheme.

And I totally agree that Ribeye for Lich was a bigger drop off, no doubt. But think back to that Eagles game. The run game was getting pretty much stoned all game until Morris broke 2 long runs on the final drive, again when the Eagles were playing some what of a prevent and somewhat distorting the numbers.

As for Sportster's comment it certainly could have been the scheme being figured out. I think it was more Josh LeRebeus on his ass all year.

You either pay a veteran.. or draft a rookie and hope he works out.

If we dont resign Gallette, then we might not get to take advantage of the deep class at D-line because we draft another OLB in the first instead.

While I think $7-8 million is a bit pricey. If its a deal with incentives, and we can take a D-lineman in both 1st and 2nd round if the talent is there... I wouldnt be upset.

All the Kojo pick meant was that he was the BPA at that slot according to SMs draft board. You read way too much into a 4th round pick.

Agreed. When you get to that part of the draft, it's generally BPA all the way. I don't quite get the Long bashing either. He performed pretty well and, at one point during the season, we had an o-line populated entirely by draft picks and whose oldest member was 27. That, of course, included Rib Eye, but I'm hoping we draft a center with our second or third round pick in April. If so, we'd have an o-line of Trent, Lauvao, (rookie, e.g., Ryan Kelly), Scherff, and Moses. Not too bad.

How really good is PFF? A couple of seasons ago, they had Tyler Polumbus ranked as one of the best RTs just before we let him go.

It is better than the normal bitching fan who really doesn't watch all that goes on or understand how to properly evaluate the talent. It is much better than "my buddy is an Oakland fan and likes his starting hyped guard."

My only knock on Long was again the run game was nonexistent after the first few games and I'm not ready to put it all on the center. I also wonder about those rankings, they had Goldson as the worst safety in the league ( both strong and free) and as posted earlier had Polumbus ranked as OK which is crazy. Still one penalty and no sacks do not lie.

But center remains our biggest need IMO and I'm cool with the idea of sticking with Long as he develops. Still if they can improve there and find great that's better. I agree with you about hoping center is addressed in rounds 2-3.
