is Torii Hunter now a part timer, JD looking to take over it looks like?

Detroit (before Max's 10 runs) was 25th in the majors in team ERA...(not sure about the SPs now, trading Fister was HORRIBLE and proving out to be)

Why was the Fister deal horrible? Krol has a live lefty arm and Ray will most likely be in the rotation next year. Now trading Lomardozzi for Alex Gonzalez,.... that was a horrible move. Fister is a solid starter, but trading a 30something 4th starter for youngsters that have already contributed isn't that big of a deal really.

the Tigers are sitting 25th (after tonight probably 27th) out of 30 in Team ERA....Porcello, Smyly are not of Fister's caliber...Verlander and Max are strikeout kings over him but not ERA/Whip kings over him, this year and even over their careers Fister has been able to hold his own...just because a guy strikes out a bunch of batters doesn't make him a better pitcher...Fister's strikeout to walk ratio blows them both out of the water.

If you think Krol and Ray were worth Fister, have at it. I said it was horrible when it happened and so far the numbers are backing it up. (on the flip side I said Fielder for Kinsler was an incredible deal and thats proving to be true also)...maybe it will change but the numbers say it was a horrible deal at this point.

Right Lombardozzi for Gonzales is a horrible move, lol....a backup for a backup, I don't even know if that is considered a legit move, lol

Detroit's team era ranking while Fister was there, guessing pretty north of even 15th to 25th. If you want to say it was a good deal later in the year, its possible still, but the numbers support that it was horrible.

Seeing as Velrander's K/9 is well below the league average this year, I wouldn't call him a "strikeout king" right now

Torii tweaked his hamstring Monday and is day-to-day. Not a "part-timer". JD may be gone when Andy Dirks returns.

Great pitchers duel between Lackey (9 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K) and Gibson (7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 K) today. Probably Lackey's best game in a Sox uniform.

Most likely.. Lackey is having a good season with the ERA under 3

His turnaround's been pretty remarkable. He was about league average in 2010 (99 ERA+ over 215 innings, 1.8 WAR, 2.17 K/BB), had one of the worst season by a pitcher in the last decade or so in 2011 (6.41 ERA, 67 ERA+, -1.9 WAR, 1.93 K/BB). He's pitched very well since returning from Tommy John though, posting a 3.43 ERA over his last 43 starts (not including today's game).

JD may be gone when Andy Dirks returns.

Well, JD accounts for the only run for the feeble Tiger offense today with a solo HR. Perhaps I'm wrong, and Don Kelly has used up the last of his nine lives.

Wasn't a move that was made for June of 2014. And Fister didn't pitch for a decent chunk of time. But you told yourself it was horrible when it happened, so not much use in me telling you otherwise. Fister is a piece, he's not a focal point. Never was, never will be. (Lombardozzi has years ahead of him. Gonzalez is done. He did Win a couple games, like opening Day, but if you don't see the waste in that trade I don't know what to tell you.)

I won't be surprised if Ortiz ties it up and does a bat flip.

Good call LOL. I don't have it on right now, so I can't verify whether he flipped it. But he did homer.

agree, J.D. seems like a very good option to have, if not starting, but that would be 5 OF. Hunter, Dirks and J.D. can play musical abs, maybe spell Jackson...Davis should never get a day off.

Im thinking maybe. Unless Avila or Halladay gets dinged up, Victor forced into the backup spot for a week. But without an injury(Torii) Kelly days as insurance policy at 5-6 spots might be over. JD's awful defense and sporadic power might stick around. Maybe. I've thought Don was done quite a few times before.

Yup. Tough loss for Smyly, he did his job today.

Guthrie a little better. A few guys in the Tiger lineup had something like .350 career batting averages off him, but he got the better of them today.
