These moves almost feel like they are betting on being a very good team in 2016 and being a WC contender in 2015. Not sure how many people will think that is true, but it definitely buys time for the pitching prospects to get here. Very happy to see that we had a lot more money than most realized. I definitely think they could have done a lot better with 40 million to spend.

2013-his best season in the minors, by far, and that was with a 3.38 era and an awful 1.328 whip

Career minors - 29-43, 4.39 era and gawd awful 1.478 whip as well as a 2.29 k/w ratio

Are you point that out to show that the Yankees minor league system is weaker than the Tigers? If so your may be absolutely correct.

I don't even know if I know a MLB pitcher that had that bad of a career whip in the minors. Hey, I hope he does work out it would be a feel good story of terrible minors to prosperous pros.

175 hits allowed in 154 innings between High A and AA isn't exactly good, if he indeed was their minor league player of the year that says a lot about the state of their system.

With that said he wasn't horrible in his time with the Yanks last season.

interesting read Hockey, these numbers look like Luke Hochevar when he was a starting pitcher. Can't believe Verlander was the 2nd worst starting pitcher in baseball with that 1.1 WAR. I didn't think he was THAT bad.


But agree on the "super reliever" part, its worked for Hochevar, Wade Davis. Detroit uses him as a 2 inning reliever and that changes the make up of that team. Those blown wins has to wear on the moral.

Tigers need to start JV and see if hes back to form. I think that core injury affected him last season. Miggy and JV should both be 100 percent healthy for detroit and thats great news for the tigers.

actually agree for 2 or 3 months, if he isn't doing it and the pen is still blowing it, the smart move would be to try it. This might be the Tigers best offense in awhile, he should get the run support needed.
