lol true that "Big Game" James has some October proving to do

but...in case he doesn't I think I'd trust Vargas, Ventura or Duffy throwing right handed before Guthrie

It's really obnoxious that some fans (not on this site) are even suggesting Guthrie be used in the playoff rotation. Gets me nauseous every time I read it. It's a move completely consistent with this organization's thought process is the scary part.

With Finnegan possibly going to the playoff roster based off of DL maneuvering, Guthrie is strictly a long guy in a postseason scenario if the Royals are at all serious about doing anything meaningful.

Nothing wrong with Ventura and Duffy long term. But they already are past their limit. The Nationals woulda sat em down for the year last week.

Guthrie, Vargas and Shields have to give everything they've got right now. And then S'more. Vargas tommorrow, right?

Yup Vargas tomorrow then Shields back up again to try and still win that series.

By all indications the Royals have stood by the fact that they will not take the Nationals route even in the slightest this year. Ventura and Duffy will pitch(if healthy that is). Thank god.

Lol that is crazy talk.

Luckily I doubt you have to worry about it unless Duffy ends up being something way worse. No way Guthrie cracks a 4 man rotation otherwise unless Yost goes full blown psycho and sits the rookie.

They really don't even have a choice though since they are in a contending position. Their options are guys who started the year in A ball, Chen, and Hendriks.

Max Scherzer is getting batters to chase his changeup down out of the strike zone 48.8 percent of the time, which is fifth-highest among qualified starters in MLB.

Jason Vargas, however, is 2nd in MLB in K's via changeup- though a few country miles between him and Felix Hernandez.

Does riding the youngins NOW seem like the best idea for LATER?

Or does waiting till later, seem like the best thing to do now?

I think they should rest Shields too, but that's just me. Guy looks like he could use a breather till atleast Thursday or Friday.

we don't have any oldins or options for oldins, not really a choice, we are always riding youngins.

sucked the Royals got 5 runs, most runs in a game in a while, when the Tigers get 8 runs......now they will get 1-3 runs the rest of the week per game.

When it's been nearly 30 years since you made the playoffs you ride whatever you got that is awesome.

But lol on Shields...don't think the Tigers are going to get to avoid him nice thought though.

Nats sat Strasburg in a season they went to the playoffs(and lost in first round).

I know. Im just playin.

But overusing youngsters is a dangerous game. There's The Nats, with Stras. Which I would have screamed about if I cared. And then there's the Tigers and what they did with Bonderman. (He was a huge part of their run)He got abused, innings wise, at a very young age. Never did get a chance to reach his peak as a pitcher. May not be solely on account of that, but I have a hard time believing it wasn't part of it.

I don't think Ventura and Duffy will get the kid gloves.(They both are well over previous highs in innings.) On account of need and on account of investment. KC has options, as always. (We didnt even know if Ventura would start, until April, did we?) Stras was some freak hype machine that they needed to hawk a franchise to a fanbase nestled within other fanbases.

Ha I knew you were playin on the Shields wishes

I agree that it is a risky business but I believe a lot of arm injuries are going to happen regardless like Jose Fernandez for example. Just shitty luck.

Sure a lot of innings can cause guys to wear down(JV maybe?) but some don't(Felix so far) and neither of those two have had injury problems so far. It is so hard to tell.

I could see spacing out Ventura and Duffys(hes missing 1 forsure anyways) starts even in a pennant race being an ok move but should they make the playoffs...you gotta pitch these guys.
