I am still clear we are talking about the WORST finishes for the Highest payrolls and clearly its down to 3 teams in the history of the game. Detroit being one of them

Tigers don't have the MLB record of losses in a season at 119, its just an AL, they are only 3rd there too.

Tigers still in the running for Worst finishes by Highest payroll in the AL.

Bums and Moose put some calls into the Royals. Tell them to help rep the Central and throw these 3 games.

Did you guys need home field last year? I think not!!!

Should be an interesting series. I'd love another flyball park in the playoffs. HFA would be cool too.

Are you guys really throwing Venture and Cueto at us? I know Cueto but id prefer to not face him and you would think KC would rest him.

At least it seems Morales and Cain may just chill for the weekend.

Almost every player is 23 at one point. Does not mean much. Brennan Boesch was 23. Al Kaline was 23. Your point is meaningless.

I only used the age in comparison to Moustakas, not the whole league, most of which is older 3Bs. In his first two full seasons, at a comparable age, Moustakas went .242/20/73 and .233/12/42. And he's made a considerable leap as a hitter this year at age 27. I think Castellanos can be better by age 26-27, at least at the plate. That is, if the Tigers can endure below-average defense for that long.

Age matters because most of the time a player gets considerably better around his age 26/27 season. There is a reason why a hitters prime is considered to be late 20's to early 30's... and NOT his early 20's.

Bumsy knows that... I don't even think the guy is stupid... I think he is just so crazy about proving me wrong he will use stupid comments, tainted facts, and cherry picked stats to do it.

Sounds more like an excuse for Castellanos being a poor ball player. "Hey, he's ONLY 23!"

Kris Bryant is 23

Players like Bryant, Trout and Harper are the exceptions, not the rule. The bulk of major league hitters start to peak in their later 20s.

The list of major leaguers who produce like Bryant at 23 years old is a short one.

That said, Castellanos was never an "elite" prospect.

It was always believed by the Tiger brass, watching Castellanos in the minors, that he would at least hit well at the major league level. His defense was the big question mark. The main issue with Castellanos at the plate right now is getting better against RH pitching. If he can do that, I think the strikeouts go down and the BA goes up. His splits this season are .232 vs. RHPs and .364 vs. LHPs.

Just saying, by Iffy's logic, the Royals should have kicked Moustakas to the curb a few years ago, and they wouldn't be reaping the benefits of what has been a very productive season from him. Hell, Mike Schmidt's numbers at age 23 were .196/18/52. (And before you say it, I am NOT putting Castellanos in Schmidt's class.)

OK....let's pencil in Castellanos at 3B for Detroit....for what, 3 more years? That will get him through his first year of arbitration I believe. If he has that one good year, he'll get a fat extension. If he continues to be what he is now....fans can blame Dombrowski/Avila/Ausmus/Ausmus' replacement......and trade him to Boston for a utility infielder at Pawtucket.

Three more years of Castellanos works out perfectly. Detroit's top 3B prospect, one Mr. Zach Shepherd, is a 19 year old Australian who is listed as the Tigers #22 prospect. MLB Prospects predicts that he should hit the majors in 2018. (It might take that long to break in that tough kangaroo skin fielder's glove). His numbers were not impressive at A ball.....but I have not checked the 'Vice' Minor League Newsletter, which may list him as a future star.
