"It's the first preseason game. We have three more games left," Jenkins said. "It's a long year. No need to panic and get all discouraged. Just got to keep watching film."

I understand you shouldn't be panicky in front of the media, but I sure hope that's all a facade and that AJ really feels that urgent need to produce. Watching film doesn't prevent you from making fumbles, either.

I get some of the urgency considering he was a 1st round pick, but I have a feeling he is exactly what we have been looking for, we just (unfortunately) have to be patient with his progress. Last night, I noticed he was getting open fairly regularly, but our backup OL was worthless and both Tolzien and McCoy were running for their lives. He was open and not thrown to at least three different times running drag routes across the middle.

I'm not saying he's earned it, but I would have liked to see him start with Kaepernick and the first team and play for an extended time, they really need to know if they need to fish or cut bait with him.

Not this crap again...hopefully he isn't joining Singletary to watch game film because I think he was actually watching cartoons.

Was just about to post something similar about Singletary! He should have tried bouncing something else off the media.

Jenkins was fools gold....His college tape was not that impressive... He had a nice stat line his senior season... but if you really watched him, he had 2 good games which basically comprised his entire year, and he played them against inferior competition and took advantage of some weaker teams, that had injuries to boot.

Jenkins isn't a bust yet, but he most Certainly was a "Round Bust" - He shouldn't have even been considered a first round player... he shouldn't have even been considered a 2nd rounder... He was a third rounder at very best considering his skillset, and he clearly was reached for.

Unless all this negative attention cracks Jenkins confidence, he will be fine. Just keep giving him preseason reps. He was open a lot from what I saw, he just needs to be fed the ball to find his groove. Its been a rough start, but he hasn't had a lot of chances so far. I am not calling bust yet.

Well, that's the concern. He seems like he's a little shaky above the shoulders. Not giving up on him, but it's getting down to the wire for him. I'd still be surprised if we cut bait on a first rounder before giving him his second season, but we don't have the depth to wait around for him to develop.

He was a first round draft pick... He's being surpassed on a depth chart that desperately needs WR talent, and he isn't responding.... at ALL. There isn't any "negative attention" that should influence a professional athletes well being...

He is at practice... he knows what is going on around him... He knows where he is sitting on the depth chart. There should be no excuses for him.... EVER...

yet... seemingly.. that all we've seen from him... the ability to have people make excuses.

I seriously would not be shocked, if he is a week 3 preseason cut. The 49'ers are a Super Bowl contending team, and they probably have 5-6 WR's on the Roster who are clearly better than A.J. Jenkins at this point...

I still think this class will go down as one of the very best

I disagree that he isn't responding. He increased his strength and size, worked hard in the offseason and had some promising practice sessions and from what I saw was routinely open during the game on Thursday. The interception had nothing to do with him, and yeah he fumbled the ball away. Personally I still have hope. You can say he didn't earn his chance to play more, and you might be right, but he still has not had a lot of chances. If he can just string a few catches together and get passed this I think he will be fine. My opinion.

Increased his strength and size ??? So did I when I was 23.. and it was EASY... VERY EASY, and I'm not a professional athlete. Increasing his strength and size has absolutely nothing to do with professional football...Nothing...

To be a good WR in the NFL, you need to be tough, run fantastic routes, and overall show nuances and polish that A.J. Jenkins ins't showing.

As far as the "not had alot of chances" statement ???

I don't buy it, not in a Million years... here is a guy that has had an ENTIRE season under his belt, and despite being on a team that was thin at WR to begin with, and then being basically handed playing time due to not one, but MULTIPLE injuries to players listed above him on the depth chart, he was passed over. There is a reason for that....

And it wasn't because he didn't have "increased strength and size". It's more like the fact that he truly isn't that good of a football player.

Yeah, I get it dude, you think AJ Jenkins stinks. I heard you loud and clear.

Thanks for stopping bye to tell everyone how terrible AJ Jenkins is. Your viewpoint is noted. But its starting to look trollish for you to argue so hard about it as a Cardinals fan on a Niner board. Especially since your one other contribution to this board was to eagerly tell us that Chris Culliver had been injured.

Jenkins will bust and I'm calling it here first. Kaepernick is going to bust HUGE once the 49ers lose the run game. He was lost last year whenever the run game couldn't get going. And I mean lost... like LOL Sanchez worthy.

Seattle late in the season was a prime example.. when Seattle shut down the run Colin couldn't do ANYTHING... also in the SBOWL... Gore did nothing in the first half and neither did Colin.

I hate to say it... Colin is a system QB. Once that run gets shut down he'll be crap.

And AJ Jenkins hasn't proven anything. The kid was horrible at getting separation in college, he has no quick moves or threat ability... he's just another 'guy' on the field. 49ers are going to be in trouble this year if teams figure out their run game. BIG trouble. Like 6-10 trouble.
