Finally a place where I can talk to myself, without morons telling me I am wrong.
I can come here and cry over losing Kovy and wasting all this time to get him and losing out on the rest of the free agents that were available.

I find it funny if Dean offered 84.5 over 13 years
After Kovalchuk passes on Kings' ransom, now where? - NHL - CBSSports.com Hockey
Yet a funny thing happened to Ilya Kovalchuk on the way to the new Forum, now known as the Staples Center in Los Angeles. He didn't do the widely anticipated thing and sign quickly with the Kings, turning down what a source told CBSSports.com was a 13-year offer at $6.5 million a season. And by the time the weekend was over, the Los Angeles Times was reporting that Kings general manager Dean Lombardi said he had dropped out of the bidding.

I don't know where they got the numbers but low ball offers are a Dean specialty

There are strong reports that the Kings are once again talking with Jay Grossman, Ilya Kovalchuk’s agent. Remember, it’s all a big poker game. The Kings never once said they were “out” of the picture, and our 24/7 media culture is a great way to publicly negotiate and influence opinion. Anyway, I’ll pass along more information as I get it.

Latest update from the Kings
The latest Kings/Kovalchuk twist took place tonight, when team governor Tim Leiweke entered the fray and told the L.A. Times that the latest proposal from the Kovalchuk camp did not fit within the team’s financial structure. “We really would love to add Kovi to our team, but not at the cost of our good young players,” Leiweke said. So, we’ll see what tomorrow brings.

drama

Here’s the quote from Dean Lombardi, in regard to reports that Ilya Kovalchuk will visit Los Angeles and/or sign with the Kings…

“Kovalchuk is only coming here for a visit,” Lombardi said. “It is a great opportunity for him to meet us and us to meet him. Reports of us announcing a signing tomorrow are utterly false.”

Day 13 of KovyGate:
Kovy wants to play for the Kings (maybe)
Money is far apart.
One sticking point is a signing bonus to be paid during the possible work stoppage year, so Kovy doesn't miss a paycheck. With 10 mil a year he can't find a way to stash a couple of bucks, If this so he doesn't feel the need to play in Russia if there is a strike/lockout? I don't know why it would matter when the signing bonus gets paid, unless it affects the cap differently.

I see this lasting another week. If no teams change their offers Kovy will pick somebody.

KOVY WATCH DAY 14 !!!!!!
well the web is still alive with rumors. Kovy left LA without signing, but both sides are still talking. Rumor is Kovy is sticking to his 10 mil for 10 years and Kings are sticking to 6.5 for 13 years. I hope something gets done Thursday because I will be away from phine and internet from Friday until Monday.

Day 15 and news is tight. No rumors on Kovy and the same Flyers rumors for Gagne and Hartnell but no word as to what the Kings would give up. Hope something happens by noon tomorrow, because out of town for the weekend with no phone or internet. However I will be eating dinner every night with a 4 Kings players, 2 ice girls, the guy who is Bailey, two guys in ticket sales, and 50 Kings fans so if something happens I should know.

it was over yesterday but
Over? it’s never over….

The Ilya Kovalchuk mini-series has entered the third chapter, with the league seeking to nullify the contract Kovalchuk signed with New Jersey. Dean Lombardi said tonight that the Kings would remain interested in signing Kovalchuk should the opportunity present itself, but it’s likely that the union will get involved and seek to uphold the deal. The real question is, how long will this whole process take?

Day 21 ESPN is reporting that the Devils knew he deal was rejected but held the press conference anyway as a way to force Kovy to accept a new deal.
