Congrats to Bumgarner on winning the Willie Mac Award tonight. Well deserved. Would of been cool if Willie Mac was there to present it to him. Get well soon Will Mac.

Do any of you guys know if there has ever been a study on the record of teams the day after a clinching of something? It seems like a lot of teams come up a little flat ( Hangover)the day after a big celebration. I was going to go to the game tonight but I am wiped out from last night. I guess I am a little flat too tonight so I can't blame them.

It's probably what drives Boch and Raggs crazy. I'm sure the players feel the same way.

Scherzer is probably the hardest to play behind especially with runners on. He likes to mix up his delivery time to keep the runners in check.

I know ROY is more of a numbers award rather than a story award, but Panik has been doing this in a pennant race. Is it possible he sneaks into 2nd place?

You gotta assume 1st and 2nd go to Hamilton and DaGroot. Right?

I actually looked this up a few weeks ago because I couldn't think of a rookie off the top of my head that is a winner, and figured Panik had a legit shot.

But, as you said, Billy will probably steal some votes (pun intended), but Groot will probably take it (funny, I don't know if you intentionally wrote DaGroot, but for some reason that what I have thought about his name).

Panik should finish second or third though. Billy has a .292 OBP. Terrible.

His name is DeGrom, but after GotG, I think of DaGroot every time I think of his name.

Anyway, I still think it will be tough fir Panik to even take 3rd. Peralta has put up REAL nice numbers for Arizona.

I phrased that very awkwardly but that's exactly what I've been referring to him as since that movie.

It will probably finish:

Groot
Billy
d'Arnaud (leader in homers)
Hendricks
Inciarte
Peralta
Panik

Cards just won, so all the discussion from this morning is a moot point. Giants are going on the road to STL or Pitt.

Giants lose 4-1 tonight to SD

Well a little hangover game maybe. Look whatever happens the next two days it's going to come down to one game to advance and I feel pretty good with the Willie Mac award winner going in that game for the Giants. Congrats to Bum on winning a big award here in SF. I expect the Giants to come out with more energy Saturday. Game 161 coming up. The key word the rest of the way is Energy.

Go Giants !!

Best case now is Pitt and St Louis finish tied and have the one game playoff on Monday taking out the aces of both staffs.

Only 3 names per ballot, so I doubt that many guys will be ranked. d'Arnaud may actually pull a few top votes from DeGrom to open the door for Hamilton.

However, because of the ballot size, I think only 4, MAYBE 5 guys will get any votes at all.

DeGrom
Hamilton
Panik
Peralta
d'Arnaud (maybe)

However, I think the top 2 will be well ahead of the rest of the pack.

This is a distinct possibility, and could REALLY help the Giants.

However...

If you are the Cards or Bucs, do you spend your Ace in 163? I think they hold their Ace back for the WC/NLDS. They are both guaranteed to move on. No reason to blow their wad in that game.

Winner gets 3 days off and a best of 5 series. Loser rolls the dice on a one game playoff two days later.

Just looked at the scheduled pitchers for Pitt and St Louis. Pitt has Liriano and Cole going the next two days and St Louis has Lynn and Wainwright. Cueto will be going for win number 20 against Pitt on Sunday.

Post-ASB

Giants are 26-7 when scoring 1st

Giants are 7-24 when not scoring 1st

Almost complete mirror image.

What's their record with and without Pagan playing? That's probably the more telling stat, and the one more relevant for the playoffs... :tsk:

Well, I think the scoring first stat is still significant. But since you asked:

Giants with Pagan playing: 57-39 (.594)

Giants without Pagan playing: 29-35 (.453)

The scoring first thing might be significant but I merely said Pagan being out was 'more telling'. I wonder how the 2 intersect (what was our record with Pagan scoring first vs not scoring first? what was our record without him, same breakdown?)

The things is, while the scoring first thing is noteworthy, I'm not sure what it really means, or what to do with it. Don't you always try to score first? How would the team do it differently 'trying' to score first?

Pagan is clearly a MAJOR factor, simply put with him we're a very good team, without him we're not good at all.
