I am rooting for the Royals to overtake the Tiggers and win the AL Central. George Brett lives!
Yup. But they have an offense. But they also have no defense what-so-ever.
I think it may be the Expos year. Redemption for 1994 for both the Expos AND Matty...
Nice inning for Javy
I do agree though that either Alex or Hank read our boards. Hank has been putting up convincing evidence lately. In previous years, before he took over for Baggs at the Merc, I had a strong suspicion that Alex not only followed, but posted. Once he took over, I think he just lurked. Maybe not so much recently.
If I was a writer, I would lurk the message boards. Sometimes we collectively come up with nice stories to write about. Takes some time.
Dogs have scored 44 more runs than the Giants (at this stage, about 0.25/game) and they have given up only three fewer runs (606 to 603) than the Giants. Pretty evenly matched, aside from injuries. And the Dogs' 1-2-3 is way better than the Giants' 1-2-3 has been. Grienke and Kershaw have been almost automatic wins.
Dogs were without Kershaw and Grienke for a time, and Billingsly all year. The absence of Pagan and Belt and Cain really hurt the Giants, though Cain's absence brought us Peavy, who has pitched like an ace.
.25 runs a game is a shit-ton. That is 1 extra run every 4th game. In the NL West, that could be a win every other week.
It's not as large a discrepancy as I supposed, on either scoring or allowing. I assumed the Dogs would be far better offensively, and far better pitching wise. Turns out the gross totals tell another story. Of course, it is the distribution of runs that will affect the outcome of games. Win 12-2, and then lost all the five games 4-2, winds up scoring 22 and giving up 22, and go 1-5 in the week.
Still, closer totals than I thought.
Gutierrez is painfully slow.
Kruk and Kuip have harped on that all season. They have mentioned that it particularly drives Boch and Rags nuts.
I like pitchers who work fast. Maddux worked fast. Big Daddy worked fast. Keeps the defense on their toes better, I think.
Ask any every day player and they'll tell you they love quick workers on the mound.
