Interesting, Pence leading off.

No, it's "these games matter exactly nothing, so let's give the home town fans a few more Pence starts. And lead him off so he gets more ABs."

I approve.

He is slashing .200/.241/.236 this month and so he is sitting for productive guys like Blanco and Pence and Hernandez . . . oh wait . . . nevermind.
:noidea:

Pence - .211/.231/.342
Hernandez - .154/.214/.308
Blanco - .157/.214/.216

Will Abiatal Avelino get a start this season or is he going to finish with 3 at-bats?

I am actually somewhat OK with his sitting. Just not as much as he is (assuming he isn’t hurt). He doesn’t play center, so Blanco/Gorkys have to get those ABs. Garcia is playing great and auditioning for Hundley’s job next year. Pence is getting honor-ABs and Shaw has a much higher ceiling.

And Slater has been hitting like shit.

I feel kinda bad for Bryan Mitchell. He's pitching well against the Giants. As a rookie, that's almost the final nail in the coffin of his major league career's casket.

The Padres are seriously hurting their high draft status. They were bumped from 4th to 5th with today's win and could easily slip all the way to 7th by the end of the season if they are not careful. The bad news for the Giants is that they are one win (or one Texas loss) from being eliminated from the 8th pick. Toronto also maintained their one game lead for the 9th spot. The good news is that the Giants made some more room between them and the Twins, Mets and Angels. Additionally, the Giants are guaranteed no lower than the 13th pick of the 2019 draft. A Giant loss and Angel win tomorrow will guarantee no lower than 12th (of course, that would also eliminate the 8th pick as the Rangers play the Angels tomorrow).

1) Baltimore 45-111 - (6 games left)
2) Kansas City 54-102 9 (6)

3) White Sox 61-95 16 (6) (3-8)
4) Miami 62-94 17 (6) (3-8)
5) San Diego 63-94 17.5 (5) (3-8)
6) Detroit 63-93 18 (6) (3-8)
7) Cincinnati 66-91 20.5 (5) (3-9)
8) Texas 66-90 21 (6) (3-11)
9) Toronto 71-86 25.5 (5) (7-13)
10) Giants 72-85 26.5 (5) (8-13)
11) Minnesota 72-83 27.5 (7) (8-17)
12) Mets 73-83 28 (6) (9-17)
13) Anaheim 76-81 30.5 (5) (9-17)
