I think the "effectively" part is what scorekeepers always liked to hang onto to make themselves feel more powerful.

The above stats are probably why Griffey was in the top 10 in the MVP vote 7 times while Compiletrzemski only was only in the top 10 3 times.

And since you're all excited about top 10 MVP finishes, Jeter has 8 top 10 finishes (more than Griffey).
