Bailey isn't going ANYWHERE. It's not like he's unable to hit, he's just returning to Earth. He's likely the best fielding catcher in the league dude.

I could see them bringing him up as Sabol can play other positions. But Bart is not going to be replacing Bailey as primary catcher.
This.

Bailey not in the Bigs because of his bat. He adds Posey-level value with his glove and staff management. His bus-days are behind him.

The Giants' offense looks like a juggernaut compared to the A's. Compare current OPS between starting 9 (Giants listed first):
C - .699/.633
1B - .827/.696
2B - .758/.884
SS - .624/.475
3B - .767/.736
LF - .786/.674
CF - .641/.636
RF - .723/.803
DH - .900/.538

Of course, considering how pathetic the A's lineup is, the differences should be more stark.

By the way, you both missed my primary question. Does Matos get sent down next? Or does he work on his bat in the big leagues like Bailey because of his defense?

Who replaces Matos in center, and in the lineup?

It's a long season, up until a month ago this lineup was producing decently. It just all went away then for some reason.

There are not many options. Do the Giants left Pollock man that position? Do they call up Johnson again? Do they bring Wisely back up? Do they go wild and call up Fitzgerald to play center (he's played a bit there in AAA)? There are not many options. None of the other guys on the big league roster have much center field experience. Just wondering if the Giants let him refresh his bat in AAA, without thinking through alternatives.

I prefer Matos' glove and bat to all of those

We're in a pennant race so no, they don't have that luxury

Shades of 2016, but, fortunately, not completely.
I mean, we're winning games at a reasonable clip during this stretch thanks to pitching and defense, shades of 2010. My problem is I can't see them keeping that up, it's too mentally taxing to be in close low scoring games every day, where the pitchers know if they give up 3 runs they're in trouble.

I don’t get the sense that Matos is on his heels at the plate. He is just super young. I am not certain sending him down would accomplish anything.

And there really isn’t anyone else who can fill in for him. Meckler likely won’t be considered until next year. Brown has completely come back to Earth in his first full year of AA.

Just like the pitching can’t continue at this HIGH clip, the offense shouldn’t continue at this LOW clip. We don’t have a good offense, but we don’t have a little league offense either.

Yeah, Meckler has just started getting his feet wet in AAA. I really cannot see him on the big league club until 2024.

I'm very sad to see how poorly Brown has done the past two months. He hit out of his mind until then and has probably hit the mirror reverse of that since then.

That's the hope anyway, and the pitching is hopefully closer to the true level than the hitting.

Not a great sign when Crawford can't get a guy in from 3rd with no outs. Need a sac fly here.
