As of right now, we are the #7 seed. We would play the Cubs in the first round.

I am not sure making the "playoffs" this year (8 teams LOL) would help the ballclub. They aren't winning it all, and they might choose to hold onto Cueto etc if they play for this year. Rebuild means rebuild.

Wanna bet? No, just kidding. My opinion is ride out the year with what they have. If they can part with Shark and a few of the lesser contributing pieces then do so. They’ve already shown Belt and Crawford they will sit if they don’t perform and they can be replaced with pieces that will. Plus They have some pretty exciting young players waiting their turn to come up and play with Bart again.

Unfortunately Shark has ZERO trade value. They can release him but no way he gets traded. I think it's his last year of his contract though.

Cueto is the most valuable trade piece they have that's not needed for the future. Belt might get something too.

That would be the 2nd year in a row of doing that, which makes it look like the FO doesn't know which way to go. Samardzija, unfortunately, isn't going anywhere. He's not going to be ready before the deadline and he would need to throw at least 2 lights out starts to make other teams think it would be worth some kind of prospect to get him.

I think Belt could be tradeable and maybe even Longoria, especially if he picks up the pace at the plate in the next week. Heck, Crawford may have recently hit his way into trade status. He still has a defensive rep.

Right, Longo maybe. But they all carry big price tags. Maybe if we eat some of the salary. Cueto is exactly what a contender would want for the playoffs.

I agree. My point, which I think is the same as yours, and cal has expressed it as well, that this is an awful time for the team to get hot and start thinking playoffs as it, at worst, has the club stand pat on the biggest assets and, at worse, could fool Harris into actually believing his preseason spiel and actually make the team buyers. Could you imagine how good the outcome of a Bumgarner trade would have looked right now?

Yeah we all agree. I think FZ is too smart to fall for it.

Heck the assassin move might be to deal Yaz. His value is pretty high (cheap deal, raking), but he's 30...will he be a meaningful piece when we are good again in 2 years? If someone offers a can't miss prospect for him...

This is Scrabble's final year of his contract, for $19.8 million.
