Show of hands who think we should keep Yaz as our 3rd/4th outfielder? We have Lee and Ramos set, just need the last two spots.
His numbers are very solid for a 3rd OF and couple that with elite defense he is the perfect 3rd OF. He's there for defense but can hit enough to be a corner outfielder. Check the stats lifetime, not great...but good enough

Also not expensive

Keep him

This series tells us nothing about if we are good but 3 wins are 3 wins

For context, Manny Machado has grounded out 25 times in 495 plate appearances.

The Padres have GIDP 112 times, the Yankees 107 times. The Orioles only 59 times.

The Giants "only" 90 times.
this whole exchange made me think I was having a stroke…

He is a clubhouse leader, offers GG-level defense, and his bat is quietly very good.

I have argued that he is over-rated and we should cut ties with him, but I don’t feel that anymore. He isn’t an allstar, but he is a solid cog. Especially as a 4th OFer.

Yes I think Yaz should be our 3rd/4th outfielder. Does anyone know if Barry Bonds had any sons?

Nicolai. I think he played in college, but he was not his father’s son nor his grandfather’s grandson.

As I said before the series they probably aren’t making the playoffs but if they don’t sweep this team they for sure aren’t

I am a Yaz fan but every year his bat goes stone cold as some point and I’m ready to move on. Need to steal myself now for his 2025 jag

Then he must have corresponding hot streaks because his lifetime stats are surprisingly decent

To be fair his best years were early on, lately more average. Maybe best 4th OF in the game? Cheap and valuable so you take the good with the bad

But even when his bat dries up, he still brings GG level defense.
I’m not advocating for him to be off the team. He is a valuable player, quietly good. Just saying it is frustrating when his bat goes cold because it becomes arctic frozen. And yes that means a good hot streak comes afterward.
