Maybe the 'on pace' thing doesn't apply to early innings?
Of course it does. It's just "on pace." Just a piece of data, not a "prognostication."
Jeebus, lighten up Francis.

"Pantshat early, pantshat often."
Some more quality early inning prognosticating from tzill
Huddy on pace to go five.
"Pantshat early, pantshat often."
"be largely silent when criticism is warranted, whine like a little bitch about another poster instead of commenting on the game, and then gravy train another poster's complaint."
The kid can hit.
Wondering why we tolerated so much crappy play at 2nd for so long (Uggla, really?!?).
Panik may not be a .330 hitter with pop, but he is smooth and steady. He looks like a keeper.
It's sure good to have Pagan back. He makes it all go.
Panik hitting .318
One of the best team efforts of the 2014 campaign as Giants get into D.C. at 6 AM. Hudson gives the Giants a good effort going 5.1 innings getting the win giving up only 1 ER. Bullpen goes 3.2 innings only giving up 1 ER late in the game that had no bearing on the outcome.
On offense there is this kid named Joe Panik and get used to that name because not since Robby Thompson has a rookie stepped in at second base and looked like he belonged from the get go. Panik stepped to the plate in the 4th inning and smashed a 3 run HR to center which was his first HR of his young career. The dugout exploded like a bunch of sailors hearing they just earned a weekend pass on shore. Panik ended the night going 4-5 and was the player of the game.
Posey continues his offensive explosion with another HR his 15th on the year and then adding a double later collecting 2 RBI's on the night. Pagan,Pence,Panda, and Ishikawa all contributed to this win beating Fister who had not given up a run in his last three starts was huge. Giants snap Nationals 10 game winning streak on a day not many would give them a chance to win this one.
Another win to remember and now the focus goes to winning this series and Tim Lincecum who is 10-8 this year will get that chance Saturday in a 4:05 EST start. Great effort as Giants cruise on a friday night in D.C. 10-3.
Go Giants !!

Eric Paslay - Friday Night
Really? Was it somehow obvious that plugging in a raw rookie would immediately get these results?
No, it was not obvious that it would get "these results", but it was certainly worth a shot to try Panik at 2nd. He was a high draft choice. He hit well at every level. His defense is adequate. What was obvious was that whoever they plugged into 2b was not working, at least after HicKs' start in April.
I understand that the PTBs wanted to get Panik more seasoning in AAA, and in an ideal world, that would have been preferred. But after HicKs had his month of hitting and then couldn't do anything with the bat, and trying Uggla, and Abreu, and Scoots, and Arias, why not bring the kid up and see what he can do? Instead of continual dumpster diving in search of fill-in players, why not turn to the players that we scouted and drafted and are developing? Why not do that earlier rather than later?
They have stuck with Duvall, who has appeared to be overwhelmed of late, but only because of BB9's injury. Ishi has been a pleasant dumpster dive addition. Duvall was not as highly drafted as Panik, and came with lowered expectations. Still, he was bashing the ball at AAA, and deserved a shot.
Panik has grown into the job. I am delighted that they didn't send him back down when he was hitting .203 after 74 at bats. On August 2, Panik was hitting .203. But they didn't pull the plug, and he has rewarded the faith by hitting .429 in August.
Easy, kitten.
You bring the pantshat every game, I like to needle you for it. In olden times tzill 1.0 used to do the same.
You know too much about baseball to call every damn 2 run inning a 'shitshow'.
As the sage once said, "Can't we just all get along?"

With a .994 OPS, I might add.
Other very decent OPS among the regulars in Aug:
San Francisco Giants 2014 Batting / Hitting Statistics - ESPN
Morse: .897
Posey: .873
Pablo: .825
Pence: .775
Some good subs, too (with fewer PA's):
Arias: 1.152
Susac: .794
Ishi: .792
Bum: .819 (They really should use him more as a PH, IMHO. And I wish the other SP's would work on their hitting more, too, instead of just being automatic outs.)
Hitting is contagious, esp when the holes get plugged. It creates fear in the opponent (they can't pitch around players as much), and creates confidence on our side. In sports, as in life, there is no greater positive than confidence, and no greater negative than fear.
And Panik and the subs are plugging some holes very well right now, and it is creating hitting synergies.

Wasn't directed at you, MSG.
A shitshow is a shitshow, irrespective of score or inning.
