If fatso had decided to resign with us Duffy might have been stuck in the minor leagues or the bench

Totally....Giants seem to get lucky with stuff like that. Anyone remember the name of the pitcher who went down mid 2010 so we called up Bumgarner? Yeah, me neither

-actually I do

Do you remember the pitcher who went down in 2007 to clear the way from Lincecum, which started this all?

And I can't believe he was still around. He pitched in this decade in fact!

Who was it?

And wasn't Cain up first?

Cain was up, but he wasn't the game-changer Tim was. When Timmeh came along, that's when everything started to turn around.

It was Russ Ortiz.
Not sure I agree on that. Cain's numbers in 2005 were really good (albeit in just 7 starts). Lincecum's numbers were okay in 2007 but they were in 23 starts. The 2006 season wasn't great but neither was 2007 or 2008.

Yeah the Giants as a team sucked from 2005 until 2009. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that Tim was the face of the team after the Bonds-ERA. With his Cy Young 2008, he became "The Franchise". Cain was stuck getting "Cained", while Tim was dominating. Then the Giants got lucky and landed Bum and Posey, but that was after Timmeh.
