The organization that runs the Edward Jones Dome has made it official: The facility will not get a publicly funded $700 million upgrade. Could it be? The Los Angeles Rams once again?

Governor Nixon and Stan Kroenke are meeting personally to get this done. At the end of the day, either the Dome gets improvements at a lesser scale or Nixon and Kroenke find another plot of land for them to build on....Nixon does NOT want the Rams to leave on his watch...

Yea, there is a group in place in LA that are affiliated with Kroneke that have a specific plan to upgrade the Coliseum to a new stadium for the LA Rams. This may develop as the season progresses.

It really isn't that bad. We haven't been in a recessionary period in nearly 5 years and our unemployment rates right now are pretty good by a global standard. Part of the reason living has become more expensive is because people now see things as maintaining a standard of living that are more luxuries than necessities. If American's as a whole handled their money better(both individuals and gov't) then we'd be just fine.

Sorry, just my little rant because I'm sick of the "economy excuse."

Like football?

The economy is weak for all of the advantages that America has in education. Its not an excuse. Private markets are performing as expected but we hit a snag a few years back and until that gets resolved, the lack of public sector growth will hold the economy back from what we expect.

This is where I'll use my unsustainable bubble argument. The way the economy moved in the beginning of the century is unrealistic because more money was spent than people were making. People bought on credit and not handling money properly caught up to a society that was on a bubble. The economy we are in isn't what it was because industrialization is over and those numbers are no longer applicable to future projections. This is out economy now, its not that bad, and its what its going to be.

Sorry, as long as football goes I have thoughts too. No, STL should not spend 700mil. Thats foolish because the team does not bring that amount of money to the city. The city should invest in the team if they feel they will bring in the tax dollars to make it beneficial. That amount of money is way too high and absolutely should not happen.

I would actually argue that we are still fully surrounded by an unsustainable bubble. Look at your average college town like Columbia. The 'hardest working town in America' and a large part of its economy is built around the college bubble.

Kroenke pushed out the grocery store that was downtown of Providence and Broadway about 10 years(?) ago by charging insane price per square foot for the area. The thought was that he was intentionally keeping it vacant so that people would go to the 3 Super Walmart that surround the town but then everyone started developing student housing downtown because the zoning codes for those old buildings are grandfathered in to be very flexible. So magically 10 years later, Kroenke gets a deal to get some foreigners to build a natural foods grocery store downtown in a program that allows them to become citizens if they invest.

Long story short: the Kroenkes and whoever represents them are always the smartest people in the room. My assumption is that Nixon will cave and the team will stay in STL but I know that if I was in his position, I would take the team to LA or London.

Oh Stan Kroenke is an absolute genius. He controls the large majority of the real estate around here, my boss is currently in the process of getting a new building for a new Penn Station here.

I don't know how the higher education numbers are going to progress. This year is the 1st year in a while that Mizzou has a smaller incoming class than last year. A few of the off-campus living complexes here are already having trouble filling all their spaces so I don't know how all the new ones are going to make money. A big problem I see coming is that all the new places are built to be higher end places that a lot of the student body doesn't want to pay for. I have an apartment about 2 miles south of campus now and its really nice but August 1 I'm moving to a duplex north of town because its less than half the cost. By the standards of the new places that are being built my current apartment isn't even that expensive so as places have trouble filling prices will drop. I don't know if these places will be able to pay themselves off if the number of students continues to grow but as tuition prices continue to increase community colleges are starting to look more and more attractive for the first 2 years or so. Smaller schools like Truman State and MSU are looking like cheaper alternatives also.

Don't get your hopes up just yet. There is a large lot in Fenton, Missouri where the old Chrysler plant use to be. That lot is much bigger than one the Dome is sitting on and the Mayor of Fenton has already said that the Rams are welcome to it. And in many ways, I hope they take it as many clubs nowadays are building their stadiums in the suburbs rather than in the actual city that their name represents. I guess they could move back to LA but that seems like a long shot right now. Stan Kroenke wants an updated modern stadium but the Colisuem needs to be updated far more than the Dome and that whole Farmer's Field that was proposed hasn't broke ground yet and I don't see how the Rams will get a new stadium if they don't put forth some money. It's estimated that the Farmers Field will cost $1.2 Billion and if the Rams won't cover co-costs to construct a $700 million renovation, they won't co-pay for the $1.2 billion stadium. Very sad situation if you ask me... Where ever the Rams end up, rather in Missouri or back in California, Stan needs to fork out some of his own money and so do the Rams. Jerry Jones funded his own stadium himself and I bet you he has made it all back and then a huge profit.

@mutigersfan: 'Cool Stuff' was an institution that was supposed to symbolize the strength of downtown business and Arnie went into real estate because it was more profitable. As a Como 'townie' that owns and rents a couple of properties and knows people that own and rent a lot of properties, I could literally talk about Columbia real estate for hours. The rent is currently too high everywhere and it should come down a little bit within the next 10 years. Everyone is excepting us to have a really high foreign population (read: Asian) to fill in all of those student housing projects, btw.

I'm really hoping that Kroenke's desire to have a team in Missouri outweighs the financial benefits that he will likely have to move the team. Most likely, Nixon will cave, STL will pay the money, and things will go on as normal.

Kroenke will have to put up some of the funds. That's never been the issue. A significant part of the money also has to come from outside investment from the local community. That's an NFL Owner's by-law that many fans are unaware of. Jones could have built the stadium in Dallas without outside financial help, but he would have been hit with financial penalties by the league. Upgrading the existing stadium isn't what Kroenke wants and it doesn't make financial sense to anyone. The solution is a new stadium that will be given a Super Bowl to host in the near future. That's an unofficial, unwritten part of the package for which ever City makes a deal with Kroenke. I'm not for or against St. Louis or LA in this matter. It's a financial proposition for all parties to consider. The Rams will receive an offer from somewhere. Either St. Louis will come up with a decent alternative or the Rams will move. It's straight forward and the clock is ticking.

Shane, I grew up in Crestwood so for me seeing the old Chrysler Plant become the Rams new home would be a dream come true.

Clayton, the asian move in packs. Not trying to sound racist but you never see a foreign student living alone. The is largely due to how the stud abroad programs work so they are housed together.

I got a duplex a little north of Providence and Vandiver for next year. It's 4-bed 3-bath and is $900 a month for the 4 of us. Utilities and tv/internet will add a little be to that number but it still beats the $500 a person range the complexes are talking about. My new place will be a little bit more of a drive especially since I work at Grindstone and Providence but I have 3 friends and know a few neighbors so we will be doing a lot of carpooling to campus.

Awesome man! I'm in the Arnold-Imperial area and I'd love to see the Rams take that area and build a stadium.

I think it could be great for the team to move to the county. The area around there is a really nice area and could handle a lot of parking and tailgating.
