The only one of those I agree with is the "emotional exhaustion" one. Winning that game against the Saints and winning it in the way they did just had to have drained that team of emotion as we could see by Vernon Davis' reaction to the game-winning TD. It will be up to the coaches and the players to try and work around that.

It could be a factor but I have confidence in Harbaugh that he'll get the guys focused and ready to go for this Sunday.

We've had chances for "emotional exhaustion" a few times over the course of the season and it's yet to affect us thus far this season.

Mentally this team has got what it takes to be a champion. Even though it was the first playoff game for practically everyone on the team it didn't even phase them and they treated is as just another team that needed to be stomped which is the mentality you want.

Eli throws about one INT per game. Against the much better Niners D and dbs, could easily throw 2. That would be key.

The other key is for our safeties to play smart and not give up the big YAC. That nearly killed us against the Aints.

Harbaugh has been getting these guys to play each and every week, i dont see this as being a problem. Davis even said it in his postgame specch.

What about the Giants win against the Pack? I know their game wasnt as emotional and close as ours, but they still knocked off the #1 team in Lambeau all but destined for the SB. They have the thickest heads of any team and we have stayed composed all year. Harbaugh and the staff will have them ready. Heck even guys like PWill, Gore, Davis and J. smith will get the guys in gear!

Yeah, they are going for some interceptions at bad times. Graham is like 6'7" .... after he catches it just hit him. Same thing happened with Fitzgerald a few weeks back.

Yeah, and last week PFF - a legitimate statistics-driven website - had an article about how the Niners can't win. This team has defied expectations all year. They've got a great chance in this one. I think we match up very well with the Giants' offense with Rogers on Cruz and Brown on Nicks. Ballard has been pretty quiet lately. Their run game doesn't really scare me. I think we can hold them in the low-20s. The real question is if we can move the ball with a seriously depleted receiving corps. Really hope Delanie is back out there.

If fate has us meeting the Patriots in a few weeks we'll be facing a similar challenge with Gronkowski...

The only way you stop Gronk or Jimmy Graham is to get to the quarterback before they have a chance to throw the ball. Seriously. You cannot even double cover them. Patrick Willis had no chance on Jimmy Graham due to the height difference.

Jake Ballard sucks. Any of our linebackers can cover him.

You have to options: get to the QB or hit them hard when they catch the ball. The only way to stop them is either to dislodge the ball, or make them think twice about coming over the middle. On Graham's long TD, Whitner had an opportunity to lay some serious wood, but went for the ball instead. Though with the rules these days....

Gronkowski actually has about an inch on Graham. He's just a huge human being. We don't have a back-seven player (Aldon excepted as that would be a tremendous mismatch anyway) who comes within four inches of him.

Hmmm....TWO interceptions? It's inconceivable!

I mean it's not like he threw two LAST NOVEMBER or anything...

I think it's going to come down to which team can run the ball.

I like our chances.

Yeah, I was disappointed that he didn't hit him hard on that TD. The INT is a huge play, but obviously the risk is huge as well. I felt bad for Willis. He had good coverage on both Graham TD's but he is just not nearly tall enough.

I completely agree!...Willis doesn't have the vertical to cover guys like Graham or Gronk at the top of their range. He can run with them but covering them is a different story. Interestingly and conversely our TE presents the exact opposite challenge for LB's and S's

If weather forecast hold true it could be a wet and windy day. I would have to think slick field conditions give the 49ers an advantage. It will be hard for receivers to plant and run quick routes which should slow down the passing game and help the defense. Frank Gore has still barely been used since we wrapped up the division and has to be at close to 100%, fresh, and hungry to prove himself in the same way as Alex and Vernon.

And to be honest Bradshaw is not the back that scares me. A motivated Brandon Jacobs is still the Giants best running back and the one that could give us the most trouble. The guy is still a load to take down when he runs hard.

IMO a slick field helps WR's more than CB's? its like cold conditons but not 'heavy' snow, it helps the WR's cause they know exactly where their going. CB's don't know when/where the receive will cut, and more likely to lose their footing.

being windy might help a little, as Manning/receivers are better at the long ball.

Jacobs can be very effective in the 4th quarter, but my vote goes to Bradshaw as the more dangerous back.

Well said, Deep...Keep in mind however, that advantage/disadvantage goes both ways.

yep, team 'hunger' is a bigger factor than play-off experience. the chemistry is obviously great, and we should be ok by Sunday.
