The good news is Timmeh's stuff was mostly unhittable through three, he was spotting his fastball well, his velocity was up, and his slider was dominant.

The bad news: once he lost his release point, he pitches were up and his movement was nonexistent.

Edit: what gp said... :)

Is he just a two pitch pitcher now? Fastball/change?

He threw some good sliders in this game. Looked to me that he could not find the change-up location - kept bouncing it well before the plate (so not enticing anyone to swing at it). Probably why he tried to throw the slider on 0-2 to Gwynn instead of the changeup.

Nate owes the team a couple of runs.

Where does this leave is status? - do we try and move him given that we wont sign this version long term with Cain and Madbum locked up.

I am seriously starting to think a trade dead line deal, contending or not. If contending getting the bat and prospects we need not contenting for some pitching and infield prospects.

Too early to tell. But I think it's likely he:

1) eventually gets it together mechanically.

2) might not be worth a record breaking contract he seemed destined to get a short time ago.

What bothers me is the intentional weight gain in 2011, and now the intentional weight loss in 2012. No wonder his mechanics seem screwed up. The dude is experimenting on the Giants' dime.

Crawford's hole is a breaking pitch that starts at the belt and drops out of the zone. If he can lay off those, he'll be ok. But that's the pitch type that ran Bowker out of the big leagues.

Bowler did not have the D to fall back on, though...

Because Timmy of old had a mix of stuff, fastball/slider/change/curve...

True that. And also, Bowker was at a position you have to hit. Craw just needs to hit .250 but that's in doubt.

Interesting that Belt was once ranked with Kershaw as a top left-handed pitching prospects.

Belt and Kershaw headline one of the deepest positions among the rising high school senior class: lefthanded pitching.

The Area Code Games were held Aug. 6 - 10 at Blair Field in Long Beach, Calif. Following are the top 20 prospects from the Class of 2006 in attendance, as judged by Baseball America associate editor Alan Matthews. The ranking reflects the player's overall ceiling, with some consideration given to tournament performance.

1. Matt Latos, rhp Coconut Creek (Fla.) HS
2. Chris Tillman, rhp Fountain Valley (Calif.) HS
3. Jordan Walden, rhp Mansfield HS, Arlington, Texas
4. Brandon Belt, lhp Hudson HS, Lufkin, Texas
5. Jason Stoffel, rhp Agoura (Calif.) HS
6. Clayton Kershaw, lhp Highland Park HS, Dallas
7. Grant Green, ss Canyon HS, Anaheim
8. Travis Snider, of Jackson HS, Mill Creek, Wash.
9. Josh Ravin, rhp Chatsworth (Calif.) HS
10. Chris Parmelee, 1b Chino Hills (Calif.) HS
.........

Cool find...

Latos is a current MLB ace.
Kershaw is one of the top SPs in the game.
Stoffel is a former Giant farmhand.
