The way Samardzija is pitching, I'd much rather have Derek Holland be the 5th guy and do something with Samardzija when Bumgarner and Cueto are both activated.

If Samardzija is really hurt, then the Giants do need to think about outside options. This guy is awful right now. Sit him if he's injured. His starts aren't going to help the team any more than a scrub from AAA.

Sammy has shown that he is a quality MLB starter. Holland has shown that he is a #5 AT BEST. I will take a struggling Sammy over an OK Holland every day of the week.

I can see Harvey in place of Holland, but no way is Sammy going anywhere.

Samardzija had one really good season (2014), a couple decent to good seasons (2012, 2016 and maybe 2017) and the rest were mediocre or worse since he converted to full time starter in 2012. I will say that is better than Derek Holland's career, for sure. However, I don't think Samardzija is going to be a positive influence on the season until he's completely healthy. Holland's numbers are better than Samardzija's thus far in 2018, which isn't saying much at all.

I'd much rather have Cueto and Bumgarner in the rotation over both of these guys but that is not possible right now so I guess we'll have to slog through with Holland and Samardzija in the meantime, hoping that one or two get better or that Beede catches fire and is able to harness that talent in the big leagues.

When your (healthy) ace is Chris Stratton you know you have a starting pitching problem. Have to be realistic and hope we can just hit and bullpen our way to a couple games over .500 until the 2 real aces get healthy.

Snelten is getting creamed but it looks like he'll stick with the team for a bit. Only Law and Beede are active at AAA among the 40 man options. Unless Cueto goes on the 60 day dl and the Giants purchase Dusten Knight, Tyler Rogers or Ray Black, there aren't really any moves to be made. Law is getting destroyed at AAA and I imagine they keep Beede as a starter due to the injuries in the MLB rotation and lack of depth at the AAA level.

I can see Cueto going to the 60 or Law getting DFA’d. That could open a spot for Anderson and/or Black.

That said, while Anderson is looking good, I have no true idea if he is actually ready for a cuppo yet or not. And I doubt the Giants would DL Sammy on a complete dice-roll on Anderson.

Black, however, deserves a looksee.

And there is Harvey lurking around as well.

Dude that's not even close to the weirdest first name in baseball. Lots of Cubans and Venezuelans went nuts with the names:

Cubans: Asdrubal, Erisbel, Rogerio, Yuniesky, Danys, Francisley, Rusney, Yoenis, Jozzen, Odrisamer, Aledmys, Onelki, Yasmany, Yasiel, Alay...

Some Venezuelans too: Gorkys, Breyvic, Yohander, Edubray, Deolis...

Nice to see Moronta come in and throw a clean inning. About the only positive outing from any of our pitchers tonight. Johnson's was okay, good, actually, outside of the double, but Moronta was the only one to not allow a run to score.
