Panik - 2b
Vogt - c
Sandoval - 1b
Belt - lf
Longoria - 3b
Crawford - ss
Pillar - cf
Yastrzemski - rf
Beede - p

Interesting defensive alignment. Is Belt really better defensively than Austin in left field?

Crawford is 1 for 1 and Vogt 0 for 1 against Alcantara.

If the Giants lose today, they would move within a game of overtaking the Marlins for 4th worst record in MLB. Toronto is close but Kansas City and Baltimore will be hard to catch.

The Giants have this weekend to get closer to Baltimore. Sunday's game should be on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball.

That run was unfortunate. The rally started with 2 out nobody on. Young Beeduh must learn.

Young Beeduh is a bit inefficient and a bit wild, but the stuff is there. I think he's a five and dive candidate.

Crawford should just bunt in every AB.

Young Beeduh with a strong four.

Three more outs and a shower.

Time to start chipping away at this massive 1-0 deficit.

None of our hitting coaches have been able to reach these hitters. Recall Carney Lansford quitting over that issue.

Are these hitters all of a sudden incapable of hitting? Doubt it, though some (Craw) appear to have lost considerable bat speed. Perhaps they just won't/can't listen. All the more reason to start over. I get the feeling (totally subjective on my part) that there are substantial disagreements over hitting philosophy within the org. And since this hitting "slump" has gone on since July 2016, it is now systemic and organizational, not personal. EOR

Fresh Prince with the save.

Beede was excellent. And some clutch hitting?!? You betcha.

The bullpen was solid, not spectacular.

Congratulations, you just beat one of the worst teams in baseball, one game out of three.

Well look at that.

SP goes six, gives up one run. We win.

Who'da thunk it?

Slow yer roll there partner. Young Beeduh was effective, but not excellent. Too many walks.

However, I quibble. It is a solid start for him to build on.

I suppose excellence is a comparative evaluation. After the disastrous starts of the last month, this start was excellent, though I would concede your point on the walks.

And a tzill approved game!

3 walks while concerning, never came back to haunt him. The first was the intentional walk to bring up the pitcher, who singled in the Marlins only run, was not on him. The second was erased on a DP and the third was right after that but was left stranded when the next hitter made the third out. I think today like he was there to stay rather than worrying about messing up and getting sent down. More the play to win rather than play to not lose.

I know that there has been a history of disagreements over history. When Shawon Dunston was (is, I haven't looked to see if he is still part of the staff) on staff as infield coach(?), he was quoted saying something to the effect that good hitters don't take pitches and don't walk. It seemed to go against what the hitting coach at the time (Lansford? Meulens? I don't remember the year he said it) was trying to teach. My question, when I read the quotation, was who had more influence in the clubhouse - Dunston or the actual hitting coach? Based on results, I assumed it was Dunston. Either way, its not good to have conflicting voices telling hitters what to do.
