Colon scattered a season-high 12 hits and allowed four runs in Tuesday's loss to the Angels. After a strong opening month, the right-hander is 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA and a 2.21 WHIP, along with a .414 opponents' average, in three May starts.

This does not bode well for our hitters today, as we are often wont to make terrible pitchers look like Cy Young.

Still, we are swinging it well the last few games, and playing good defense, and the pitching has been excellent.

Here's to Timmuh showing his "ace" stuff today, and a Giants' win!

The toughest part of today is it's hard to sweep any team, even mediocre ones like the Azz

From Carl Steward at the Merc

Bruce Bochy maintained before Saturday’s game that if he had his druthers, he’d go with a set lineup all the time. If this group keeps it up, it may not change much for awhile with all the right-handers coming up that the Giants will face (6 in the next 8 games).

RF Blanco
SS Crawford
LF Cabrera
C Posey
CF Pagan
1B Belt
3B Arias
2B Burriss
P Lincecum

Here’s the A’s crew: 2B Weeks, SS Pennington, RF Reddick, LF Smith, 3B Donaldson, 1B Barton, C Suzuki, CF Cowgill, P Colon.

Fact of the day: Just one error by the Giants in four games (Burriss’ botch in the ninth on Friday night).

Well with Oakland hitting an incredibly low .215 this would be the time for Tim to try and turn his season, and the Giants', around.

:tj:

This really is no fair, but the Nats' Strasburg is not only a helluva pitcher (8 K's in 5 innings already today, with a 2.21 ERA), but he is hitting .375, and has a home run today.

The only hitter with significant experience vs. Colon is Huffer, and he OWNS him. 11-32, 5 2b, 2 HR.

Seth Smith the only I with decent numbers vs. Freak.

"outright waivers" is what you do when you are going to "outright" a guy to the minors (take him off your 40-man roster and send him to the minors). Basically, Lind was DFA'd. outright waivers are irrevocable, meaning that the team can't change their mind : if another team claims him, it gets him (for a small money payment).

Since Lind has more than 3 years service time, he can refuse the assignment and become a FA.

Since he has LESS than 5 years service time, if he refuses the assignment he gives up the money guaranteed by his contract. If he accepts the assignment to the minors, he still gets paid the money specified in his contract. If the team releases him instead of assigning him to the minors (they have the option to do that) then he is due the money in his contract.

Any team that claims him off waivers takes over the responsibility of the rest of his contract. As I said earlier, if Lind refuses assignment he is a FA (and no longer has a contract) so he can sign with anybody. If Toronto releases him, any team that subsequently signs him only has to pay the major league minimum salary and Toronto must anything over minimum that he is due in his contract.

Oops - I just did a news search for Adam Lind. It appears he was already sent to the minors (a couple of days ago) - I thought he was still in the majors. So delete all the "to the minors" of the above post. All the possible actions by the player, the Blue Jays, and all the other teams are still true, but the "outright waivers" would simply remove him from the 40-man (since he's already in the minors).

Edit: unless the revocable waivers period wasn't over (the time that another team could have claimed him off of waivers due to sending him to the minors) IF he was out of options. Then he is still in the majors. If he wasn't out of options, then he was "immediately" in the minors. This shit is super simple, isn't it? ;)

It's great having Wilson in the broadcast booth, but he's not as funny as I expected. A bit here and a bit there, but he's really toned down the "funny, wild-and-crazy guy".
