I wish everything that you believe happens because it does sound nice when you write it. I wish all of our young players not only Prov took less than they are worth. Problem is it doesn't happen to often.These young guys aren't going to command huge dollars in their first contracts after their entry level deals anyway. They will sign bridge deals for 3-4 seasons and less money, then theoretically get their big paydays.
Patrick and Provorov could be different in that respect, but I still don't see Provorov getting $7 million per season right away in 2019, even if he is actually worth it at the time. $5-6 million is a better estimate, which basically just has him taking MacDonald's money.
This is why home grown talent is best. Building your team via the draft. You get several good/great years of players while they are very inexpensive and they may even take a hometown discount by the time they are really getting paid.
