Glad I didn't ask then Thanks RV :suds: this whole Harbaugh thing is way over blown anyway IMO

Agree. There is probably friction in the FO. But when you watch the locker room videos, see guys signing extensions to stay here, see guys working on extensions, and see guys mad they haven't signed an extension yet, it's hard for me to believe the locker room is lost.

Seems like a good deal to me. If he doesn't produce this season and we cut him he only counts $2.3 million against the cap next year.
I don't understand cap hits all that much I guess but if you sign a two-year contract with 9mil guaranteed, doesn't 4.5 mil of that go toward this year's cap, and 4.5 mil the following year?

All that Harbaugh stuff was a joke. All false. Even Boldin said there is nothing to those rumors,.

I agree, but this isn't evidence. If a guy leaving the team is biased against Harbaugh, a guy signing with us could be biased, too. For all we know he signed for money and winning and Harbaugh's a necessary evil. At best, this is one players perspective. I'll take that over unnamed sources, but what else is he supposed to say? I'll put up with him and his antics for the money?

But their is more than just one guy. Kaep wants to stay, Davis signed an extension, Goldson wanted to stay, Whitner wants to stay, I take those as signs as people are fine with harbaugh. That and how they are in those locker room videos

No because all "guaranteed" money isn't guaranteed. Signing bonus is the only thing that gets spread over the link of the contract. So according to Ray:

Here is how his deal breaks down so far:
Signing Bonus is $4,545,000 fully gtd.
2014 base salary is $955,000 fully gtd.
2014 per game roster bonus totals $500,000.
2015 base salary is $3M gtd. for injury only.

The 4.5 million is spread over 2 seasons so that is 2.25 million/season cap hit then you add base salary
2014 955k+2.25 cap hit =3.205 then you add the roster bonus 3.205 +500k= 3.725 cap hit

Now the only thing guaranteed in 2015 is that 2.25 million from that signing bonus and that 3 million if he gets hurt. So lets say he has a terrible season this year we won't risk an injury for next year and cut him when the NFL new year starts and have a cap hit of 2.25 million.

If he plays well its moot since he will play for us next year and we just keep his cap # in a increased cap next year that should jump 10+ million again next year.

Thanks to Ray for the contract #s

It looks like the deal is a 5-year deal that voids after 2 years. This gives them the ability to spread the cap hit out over 5 years.

Year 1: $909,000 bonus + $ 955,000 guaranteed base + $500,000 workout
Year 2: $909,000 bonus + $3,000,000 guaranteed base + $2,500,000 non-guaranteed base + $500,000 workout.
Year 3: $909,000 bonus (dead money)
Year 4: $909,000 bonus (dead money)
Year 5: $909,000 bonus (dead money)

They went crazy on this deal. Hopefully that signing bonus stays spread over the 5 years. I donno. Anything to lower the reeeedic $8M+ he was set to count in 2015 is fine by me.

So I recalculated our cap numbers. Top 51 with Rogers and Boldin leaves us with $10,959,802 of cap space.

Ray, if the Niners part ways with Rogers, does the cap space go up about $6 mil?

If we cut him before June 1st we would add $5,105,469 of cap space if we declare him a post June 1st cut we would add $6,600,000 in cap space.

Thanks Ray. I think the Niners will cut him. They are better off drafting a CB and get younger.
