Nonsense! Sam Howell has done what he's capable of but he's hit that wall that all middle-tier second-year/first-year starters hit. Some here are simply too full of excuses when the obvious is staring them directly in the face. Sam isn't damaged, EB isn't the reason why he isn't playing well and the team is stocked with average players and had two of the worse defensive-minded coaches in positions of authority, who, when matched against better competition, can't rise beyond their station in life.

Brissett is exactly as almost everyone knows him to be. This isn't news but you cannot replace his experience as an NFL QB. I mentioned this much earlier in the season when I dared to suggest that Brissett replace Howell as the starter.

Were we trying to go 9 wins this yr ? Or were we trying to find out what Sam was ? We know what JB is

You are right , Sam has done what he is capable of right now . I am sorry but asking him to pass so much and get beat down by opposing defenses sacking him virtually every drop back is on the coach and play calling . He needed a good run game and his weapons to make plays which they rarely did and haven’t done during this rough patch. He can’t carry a team yet if ever but asking him to do it is horse shit

As mentioned in my preseason predictions, Rivera will wait too late into the season before inserting Brissett to make a difference in the season. NO!, they were not trying to find out what Howell was, and here's my support for making that statement. Signing Brissett was the right move but not using him as the marker to compare against Howell in training camp was another in a long line of blunders. Remember Howell had all of one game's worth of experience when Rivera named him the season starter. Holding a legitimate QB competition in training camp would have been the best starting point in getting a feel for Howell. I believe that they were genuinely afraid to do this because they already knew more about Howell than most people knew. Unfortunately for them, Brissett had a track record, and as bad as it appeared to be on paper the players and a poster or two knew that there were differences between the two that mattered. In the last two games, there's really no other explanation for the offense to perk up as they have beyond what they see in Brissett and they don't in Howell.

EB came to Washington and inherited the excuse that most are using to defend Howell's poor performance but somehow it works when the subject is Howell and doesn't when the subject is EB. What manner of logic is this??? When you can't consistently and effectively run the ball and you can't put your QB under center to run play action, seriously, what's left? As stated much earlier in the season, Howell becomes a liability if he's not surrounded by top-of-the-line players. He's not the type of player who is gifted with abilities that can carry a team.

Sorry but that’s a lack of professionalism by the players then . Sam put the ball on them and they failed to do their jobs and believe me JB will run into a shitstorm . You can’t tell me they didn’t manage Haskins correctly but did with Sam . Either Haskins was a immature entitled prima Donna or coached badly yet I was asked to overlook that and “ let him grow” and then when Sam is asked to carry a team of quitters and deadbeats looking for a paycheck he isn’t allowed to grow .

Now we are back to looking for the shiny new toy to develop which we haven’t done since 1936

I am sorry Sty but I am not impressed with this qb class in the draft . Daniel’s and Williams haven’t lead ASU , LSU , USC or OK anywhere. Neither has Maye , Nix or Pennix although he is at least in the running .

By all reports Howell was the better qb in TC

If RR chose the lesser Howell over the better JB with his job on the line the. He was an idiot . RR knew he had to make the playoffs to keep his job . I damn sure know that if JB was the better qb and RR knew this then he would have been the starter .

I can't call it far as any other QB in college, but blaming Williams for SC's struggles is more off-base than blaming Howell for the Skins troubles. SC's defense was ranked 106 in the nation n their Spec Teams ranked 133.

Tom Brady in his prime as a professional wouldn't have made SC any better. Thier overall team was that bad.

Yeah, I guess when your head coach doesn't do everything that he can to put the best product on the field human beings are going to respond, and as you've stated that's their fault for being human.

Rivera gave Haskins 7 games that's a fact, he didn't mentor him or demand the same level of professionalism that EB would have. That too has been proven by the player revolt during camp. Rivera didn't need Haskins as he does Howell to hide behind, that too is a fact. Granted There's ample evidence to support the idea that Haskins was an entitled prima donna, but again that's a management issue... nobody volunteers to stop being entitled.

Your language betrays you "shiny new toy" to develop and yet you're putting hope into a new regime because you hated the old one, while using the same language that you employed while Snyder was the owner. That suggests your reluctance to give the new guys a chance as you've previously stated that you'd do.

You have every right to not be impressed with this QB class and I support your right to hold that perspective, but at some point, this organization has to get out of its way and do the things that make it successful. As for the team's followers/ fans/ supporters, they have to get in line with change too! I get being afraid ("uneasy" for those who don't want to be labeled as afraid) of change. Hell, there's been some talk of bringing Kirk Cousins back on this board! To them I say, 7-9, 8-8-1, and 9-8, isn't change it comfort with mediocrity!

Ok so drafting the best OT or taking a MHJ isnt doing that ? Maybe following that up with a Pennix in round 2 ? And hell who do you want to mentor a Williams or Daniel’s ? Howell ? Or JB ?

I will tell you this , purdy Hurts Goff or Dak will be in this years superbowl . None are elite

Concerning Howell. Whatever positives he was establishing earlier in the year. He burned to the ground over the last month.

What point is that. That @Stymietee is not using the same rationale, terrible coaching being one example, to judge Howell as he did Haskins?

What I am saying is at the college level Williams can’t carry a team just like Howell can’t carry a pro team ( yet if ever ) yet Williams is the next great one at 6-1 . You can’t say Howell has to carry a team on his back to be the answer and yet give passes to Williams and Daniel’s when they couldn’t either at the college level . I don’t want to spend a too 3 pick on those guys to have what I have right now . Both of those guys will be Bryce younged next year or closer to home Sam Howell Ed
