Rangers website shows 39 players on the 40 man ... ESPN shows full 40 including Castillo that the TEX site does not include. Still need to add the UIF.

Typically TEX carriers 25 pitchers on its 40 man ... currently even including Castillo there are only 24. Seems likely that Ross gets the 25th pitcher spot on the 40 man. That means a position player might be on the bubble.

TEX shows 14 position players on the active roster awaiting the UIF decision. With typically 13 position players ... means most likely that Martinez and Snyder get optioned to AAA.

But I wonder about other options TEX might make through the first couple of weeks:

- Option (or trade) Borbon and keep Snyder or Martinez active?

- Go with 13 pitchers and without a UIF through first couple of weeks?

Or a combination of the two ...

Any other scenarios that others here think are likely?

I'm thinking Snyder makes it based on his ability to play CIF, COF and catcher in a pinch

Robbie Ross with the injury to Cotts

Gonna go with Alberto Gonzalez for the UIF position

Gentry for the 4th OFer position

last 2 RP positions is tough and not for the good reasons, Lowe has been the "best" of the 3 sporting a 4.50 ERA (vs to 6.30 and 12.28), but Tateyama has an option left if they can't find a landing spot for Lowe or Uehara, so sending Tateyama to AAA could provide a temporary solution and allow them to keep all 3 and decide what they want to do in the short term

Must not have had updated numbers, a 10.80 ERA for Uehara

Robbie Ross makes it and Tateyama dealing with a stiff back might make 2 of those decisions now

Still deciding between Snyder, Borbon, Gentry, Gonzalez and Hernandez though

If Snyder's versatility makes him Super Duper CIF/COF/EC ... compared to MY's just plain Super UIF?

It seems that Wash doesn't trust Snyder in the OF much thus far due to his limited experience, so we shall see, but I can see him being competent in an emergency fashion

His duty at catcher would be limited to a couple innings in an emergency fashion, and Luis Martinez would be called up immediately for the next game

C: Napoli
1B: Moreland
2B: Kinsler
3B: Beltre
SS: Andrus
LF: Hamilton
CF: Gentry
RF: Cruz
DH: Young

Bench: Torrealba, A. Gonzalez, Murphy, Snyder

Could easily be Borbon swapped due to Gentry's ineffectiveness and injury proneness, but otherwise this is what I would roll with to open the season position wise

Snyder sure provides lots of options ... so Snyder plus Gentry or Snyder plus Gentry offers a whole lot more than Gentry plus Borbon ... especially if TEX is willing to use Hamilton in CF.

And if TEX is going to use Hamilton in CF ... then if Snyder can learn to play LF that could be the clincher for me as TEX really has no other good COF options.

Only downside I've read about Snyder is he doesn't for much of an average, but I've read somewhere he's a good OBP guy, as long as he can get on once a game (average), then he's worth in a spot start capacity

Gotta love his potential as a do it all type, if he can hit around .250 he's a keeper

Post from Jamie this morning says TEX has chosen Snyder over Borbon ... optioning Julio to AAA to play CF along with Martin.

I can't remember the last time TEX only carried only 4 OFers. Changes the mix at the infield corners and DH options.

Glad to see Ross got the call. He's pitched really well and he's earned it. I've got more faith in him than kirkman and Uehara combined. Just wish we could've unloaded Uehara and picked up Gonzalez.

Uehara looked decent towards the end,

Lowe and Uehara have one last chance to battle it out while Tateyama recovers from his back injury,

If both pitch well they can leave Yoshi in AAA for the time being, if one of them bombs then Tateyama can replace the "biggest loser"

If both stink after a while then they can sign Gonzalez to replace whoever Tateyama doesn't initally replace

Not clear to me where Lowe, Uehara, and Tateyama will fit in the RP sequence if Nathan closes, Adams sets up and Ogando handles the 7th.

Seeing Uehara and Lowe out there in their lawn chairs will surely spur SPs to get through the 6th on their own.

Me neither, but with Tateyama injured they'll have time to sort it out a little bit more

Fortunately they have three awesome guys to take the ball in the 7th, 8th, and ninth innings plus a very promising young lefty in the mean time. This is a much better bullpen than they broke camp with last year.

You got that right ...

CL RHP Neftali Feliz (promoted)
SU RHP Darren O'Day (gone signed FA with BAL)
SU LHP Arthur Rhodes (gone still looking for 2012 job)
MID RHP Mark Lowe (tbd)
MID LHP Darren Oliver (gone signed FA with TOR)
MID RHP Pedro Strop (gone traded to BAL)
MID RHP Mason Tobin (gone shot into the Sun)
LR RHP Dave Bush (gone signed 2012 minor league contract with PHL only threw 5.1IP in ST not on PHL 40man)

So Lowe is the sole member of the 2011 BP to still be here. As you said ... "This is a much better bullpen than they broke camp with last year"

Tobin wasn't exactly shot into the sun, he blew out his elbow and needed TJ surgery, didn't really get much of a chance to show what he actually had

You are right ... his second TJ surgery too. Couldn't find him anywhere so went back and checked again.

Fact that as a Rule 5 guy he actually made the opening day roster against the odds and pitched 5.1IP in 5 games may turn out to be the end of his road.

Should have said (gone recovering from surgery)
