The Giants played their 16th game of the season and faced their 11th left-handed starter, and the right-handed heft they added over the winter is producing featherlight stuff.

Andrew McCutchen is batting .181 against lefties. Austin Jackson is batting .222 with zero extra-base hits in 36 at-bats. Evan Longoria has been a bit better, but the Giants didn’t have use of his services Tuesday. He reinjured a tricky ankle in the afternoon while performing the generally passive task of standing in and tracking pitches during Derek Holland’s side session.

If the last 240 games had "normal" or average offense, we'd still kvetch but keep faith that this would turn around. But this seems, for now, what the Giants are. Hard not to conclude that. It is still early, and stuff can happen, and the guys can start hitting. But this 0-ffense is touch to watch.

The pitching, however (no jinx!) has been stellar!

Not posting much because watching NBA, but in a nutshell:

1. The pitching is good, Cueto is awesome, Stratton is looking good.
2. Longo heating up
3. Pence is totally, completely, utterly washed up. Done. They simply must put him on the bench soon.
4. Still think we can contend for a wild card but obviously not a sure thing

I know I have been preaching patience with Pence, but I think I am done now. He is still a pleasure to watch because of his passion, but dude is a mess.

Tolbert made some really good points today that he needs to go, sooner rather than later, the main one being that he has sucked for multiple seasons now so he doesn’t deserve a longer look than he has gotten. You really can’t argue against that point. And there are 4 guys in Sacto who could/should be starting over him right now.

I got distracted, but...

Cutch looked horrible on that replay. If he had gotten out of the box with some passion (hiya, Pence) he would have been safe. This team is struggling, and need our leaders to get out of this funk. Hotdogging it won’t do that.

It's not the Giants' way to kick Pence to the curb on trash day.

But there is no classy way to say, "You are not able to do your job anymore, no matter how hard you work and no matter how good a teammate you are. Thanks for the years. We'll pay you until the end of the year, and you can consider becoming a coach in our system."

I know you are right. But I am ready now.

I feel like a fickle fan saying that, but Tommy convinced me with his arguments today. He doesn’t deserve a longer look. There is no reason to believe he will come out of this.
