If Zito goes to the DL, it is a bad thing. We are already in a roster crunch, and adding another moving part is NOT GOOD.

The only real option, I believe, is Vogelsong. Marcus brought up Surkamp, but he is just not ready. MAYBE in time for Sept, but more likely mid 2012 for him. If Vogelsong IS called up, he is also an easy DFA when his spot is needed. Surkamp can not be DFA'd without losing him.

Every time we get a single with less than two outs, I get that nervous twitch. I just expect the DP to come, no matter who is up there.

But if Vogelsong comes up and pitches alright, DFAing him would likely mean loosing him too right? I could think of many teams in need of a starter right now.

See, I get it when we get a leadoff single. Then usually again after the DP knowing that a double is likely coming from the next batter...

What can you tell us about Surkamp? (yes, I'm hitting you with a lot of minor league questions these days...deal with it, it's your job on here) ;)

A little different, though...

If Vogelsong comes up and pitches well, then the G's could trade him. They do not have to DFA him. Vogelsong does not play in any future plans for the G's, so losing him is of little consequence. Losing Surkamp would be HUGE (not to mention he is still about a year away form ANY mention of MLB time).

I can;'t tell you much about what pitches he throws, or anything like that, but after Wheeler, he is probably our top pitching prospect. He had back issues at the end of last season that worried a LOT of scouts (his career was actually in question, supposedly). A lot of those in the know that I read were shocked that he started the season on the field, let alone doing as well as he has been doing.

My feel for what his ceiling is? I would say on a bad team, he could be a 2 or 3. Put him in his prime on this Giants team, and he is probably a 4 at best. I kinda think Kevin Correia +.

Keep in mind, I get my info from stat lines and other peoples first hand observations, though...

He throws about 88-90 mph on the fastball and he recently started cutting it. He earns him money with his curve and changeup, both plus pitches and he has good command of all his pitches. Scouts think he could throw harder because of his size.

Basically, he seems like Barry Zito, hopefully of the early 2000s though :pray2:
