It is because current rules and spacing allow skilled players to flourish.

In the 90s you couldn’t be more than a role player unless you were a physical freak because of how players were allowed to grab and hold on defense.

I don't know about that. He's still big, passes great, and shoots well. If Mark Eaton had had those skills back in the day the Jazz would likely have some rings.

At least in 90's you had guys knocking the hell out of each and might even get a fight...while that's not great basketball...I'd rather watch that than guys missing 3's.

While I agree that the game is better and "more skilled" now, I disagree with the "far superior, and it isn't close" narrative. For YOU that may be the case, but clearly, not everyone feels the same.

A missed three is the worst play in basketball and the most boring play in pro sports. At least a kneel down has that emotional drain one way or the other. The finality of the contest. Same as dribbling out the clock. Still more exciting than a long fucking clank.

Wrong.

Missed 3s lead to long rebounds and are more likely to be rebounded by the offensive team.

A missed layup on the other hand?

Very often lead to transition chances for the other team and layups and dunks for them.

Much easier to maintain defensive floor balance from a 3 point attempt.
