A bunch of guys released, no big surprises. Jenkins, Roberts-Harris, dremont Jones 27m in cap space freed up

Yep, zero surprise on all those guys. Jenkins didn't work out (glad Bryant found a role though), Roberts-Harris was just way too much cap for how useless he was, and Jones was just downright a bust. I was never a big fan of that acquisition in the first place.

Also George Fant is gone too...

I was expecting to see Noah Fant on that list... I wonder if we'll keep him. Kubiak likes tight ends and maybe he'll actually be able to utilize Noah the right way? I mean he's still only 27. $13.5M cap hit though (savings of $9M if cut)... Dunno. If it means keeping him and not having to blow picks on tight ends this draft and we can spend on OL/DL, fine with me. Two DL already released, OT released... Reed isn't getting younger, I would imagine Seattle is gearing up to focus on the trenches or even QB.

And for safety just resign/keep Bryant. He's only 25... and now MacDonald can work with him more. He's one of the more sound tackling safeties in the league and he routinely looks to force the ball out. There's zero reason to draft a safety.

Curious to see what will happen with Lockett. I know he wants to come back to Seattle. I imagine they will 100% release him but are trying to work out a cheaper contract to come back before releasing.

Also will be interesting to see what happens with Ernest Jones.

Think you got it right, they will try to see if a contract can be worked out but will end up releasing him. Will Ernest Jones price himself out of Seattle? Maybe but I think some how they will work it out. Geno? Looks like it's not going to be easy to work out a deal. Maybe they just let him play out his contract.

TL is probably getting cut but maybe takes a paycut. I would be pretty surprised if they don't keep Jones. He was a real glue guy on defense and Mac is a defense guy. They will restructure Geno's contract at the very least but today's cuts mean that no other cuts MUST occur.

I think up to this point the off-season is pretty much rolling along as expected. Would be great if the next thing we hear is a new deal for E Jones.

After the 4 predictable cap-casualties of yesterday reduced the team's bill by $27M, here are the 6 highest projected cap cost players for 2025:
  1. Geno Smith ($44.5M). An extension seems a lot more likely than either playing out the final at this price or being cut/traded, and I suspect we'll be hearing something sooner rather than later.
  2. DK Metcalf ($31.8M). With 3 void years at the end, this coming season is effectively the final year of his current deal. There were a couple trade rumors during the combine, but it's hard to know how much of that stuff to believe. A trade pre-1 June would reduce the team's 2025 cap bill by $10.8M. None of his 2025 salary is guaranteed.
  3. Tyler Lockett ($30.8M). There's no way this team will move forward with 3 players accounting for 40% of the cap space, and TL is clearly the most likely one not to be here. I suspect he wasn't included in yesterday's cuts because they are going to handle him a bit differently due to his place among franchise greats. There might be a world where he stays on a restructured deal, but he's definitely not the player he used to be. I suspect his release is imminent.
  4. Uchenna Nwosu ($21.1M). 2 years remaining on current deal. Talented player -- maybe the best pass rusher on the roster -- but has health concerns. A couple weeks ago it sounded like there might be a restructure in the works. Only $2M can be saved by cutting him, so a new deal seems like the best course.
  5. Leonard Williams ($15M). This number actually seems like a bargain with the way he's played here. 2nd year of a 3 year deal.
  6. Noah Fant ($13.4M). Exorbitant cost for a player with modest and sporadic production. Cutting him would have shaved $9M off the cap bill, so hopefully him not being included in yesterday's moves means they are working on a new deal.

Well shit. Is this a contract issue?
I would think so. I believe Seahawks are waiting to settle Geno's contract before doing any other big contracts. Course this is Geno's last chance at a mega contract and likely trying to max it out, so think this is going to make it hard to come to a agreement.

DK will prob. net us a late 2nd at best - and I wouldn't be surprised if it's a 3rd only. He's now had some knee items, coming off one of his worse years, had clear attitude issues and breakdowns on the field, etc. All said, it's the right time to let him walk. I feel like he was mailing it in big time as the year went on.

Zero shock IMO. This is going to be a big time ground/pound team that uses a FB and tight ends. Chucking the ball downfield to DK is not going to be happening much IMO. It does leave a hole at WR, but JSN came on big last year, and I still believe Lockett will resign cheap. I also think this means we 100% keep Fant.

I wouldn't mind DK, but I don't want to be paying him some $30M extension either. I've said numerous times I'm fine getting rid of him... although a 2nd would kind of hurt. He's been more healthy than Samuel who got a 5th... but I can't imagine he's bringing in much more. If we can get a 2nd that'd be great.

Lastly, I don't think it's a contract issue. He was visibly frustrated at various points last year and I think he's done with Geno and I think the offense is now going in a COMPLETELY different direction where his downfield big passes or out routes non-stop are just not going to be a big part of what Seattle does.

It sucks to sell low (because we will be, injuries now, looking for a mega contract, coming off a down season) but I'd rather not resign him to a huge extension, either.

It's ironic that he announces this the minute Tyler gets released...
