I'm against spending big money on a Sam Darnold cause team isn't ready to compete. Drafting one in the second or third round is more ideal being on a cheap contract and can battle Howell in camp. Or let Howell run with the offense and probably end up bad which is fine since that puts the club towards the top of the draft for a better chance at QBoF. The main key is having as much cap space as possible to sign players when the time is right to make a legit run for a SB.Sure seems like signing Darnold is what they hope to do. The cost is a question, heard they think 35 million per would work and likely have had feelers out at the combine on the price tag. Course that could turn out not to be his price tag, then what? I always think yuck when Darnold is mentioned but compared to settling for Cousins , Rodgers, Trey Lance etc he's sounds a bit better. I don't think there is any doubt they draft a QB (something they should of done in good QB classes, like last year), if they sign Darnold they can wait until the later rounds, if they miss on Darnold then who knows.
You never know if someone will emerge as a gem, it happens occasionally like Purdy drafted round 7, but I just don't have any confidence that will happen and with Darnold they could win enough games to miss out in the 2026 QB class unless they move up, which JS seems dead set against since they traded away RW. It's an expensive move but seems necessary to me, just not in a poor QB class. JS better not move up this draft for a QB or I'll lose my mind.
