2025 Patriots Draft

As we travel into Week 8, the Patriots and Panthers are fighting for the #1 pick in the 2025 Draft.

Just asking, not suggesting.

Right now, Miami is picking #5. They're QB situation is in the toilet. Tua reportedly, has been told that another concussion could land him in the vegetable garden permanently or even in the headstone garden. He's seriously considering hanging them up.

Would you be willing to trade the #1 to the Dolphins for Their #5 and #37 or #5 and 2026 #1?

As I type, no team has two first round picks. Of course, positions could change dramatically and one never knows who will get seriously injured and create rade scenarios that we can't even imagine today.

But if that's the best offer I take it. #5 and 2026 first. Weak draft so #37 doesn't overly excite me. But think there needs to be a little more to get this done IMO.

Seeing as we need a LT and can get one of the two between picks 5 and 7 trading the number 1 pick makes a lot of sense to me. Trading in the division not so much

Two firsts, two seconds and a player.
Two firsts, three seconds.
2025 first and second, 2026 first and second, 2027 first or second.

Depending on who the player is from, from what team and how far back the 2025 first and second are, maybe tweak that.

If Miami is going up for a QB I would make that trade as this does not look like a great QB draft. So take their picks and possibly saddle them with an average at best QB situation...as a Patriots fan I would think you would love that.

My opinion? You don't trade with a division rival unless you are robbing them blind.

Tua is going to play this coming weekend.

I'm interested to see how the Patriots use this. Right now draft media and even some team personnel have come out and said this is one of the shallowest drafts they have seen in a long time. Most years there is about 20-22 1st round grades given by teams to players. This year I've heard it as low as 12.

WIDE RECEIVER​

1. Tetairoa McMillan, Arizona
2. Luther Burden III, Missouri
3. Travis Hunter, Colorado
4. Isaiah Bond, Texas
5. Emeka Egbuka, Ohio State

It’s once again a very fun wide receiver class, highlighted by the 6-foot-5 Tetairoa McMillan. He isn’t just a contested-catch beast, but also a fluid route-runner and a yards-after-the-catch threat. He is the total package with true NFL size. Luther Burden III got off to a slower start than expected this season, but he had two “reminder” games against Texas A&M and UMass to remain a first-round projection.

Two-way star Travis Hunter is having a Heisman-like season, and that includes his work as a receiver. He started the season with four straight 100-yard games and has earned an 82.4 PFF receiving grade despite also playing cornerback full-time. Isaiah Bond is showcasing world-class speed and strength while catching through contact. Emeka Egbuka is one of college football's highest-graded receivers (87.4) this season. This is the best version of him we've seen since his injury in 2023, as he is displaying NFL-level route running IQ and separation ability.

OT

4. Aireontae Ersery, Minnesota
5. Wyatt Milum, West Virginia

Will Campbell started the season as my top offensive tackle, and there isn’t a reason to bump him down from that ranking. He’s stout yet quick and has the tools and strength to be a starting tackle at the next level.

Kelvin Banks Jr. is a bit smaller in height and length, so he may find his way to guard in the NFL, but his explosiveness is so impressive, especially on outside-zone runs and as a pulling blocker when he is lining guys up in space. With just three pressures allowed, he’s down to a 1.1% pressure percentage on the season.

Josh Simmons was having a fantastic 2024 campaign, with no sacks and just two pressures allowed on 158 pass-blocking snaps, before suffering a season-ending injury. He is a big, fluid mover who brings first-round traits to the position. Aireontae Ersery isn’t perfect, but he’s a massive 330-pound tackle who can truly explode off the snap with powerful leg drive and displacement strength. He reminds me a bit of Christian Darrisaw as a prospect.

OFFENSIVE GUARD​

1. Tate Ratledge, Georgia
2. Donovan Jackson, Ohio State
3. Connor Colby, Iowa
4. Jonah Savaiinaea, Arizona
5. Tyler Booker, Alabama

Tate Ratledge has missed some time this season due to an ankle injury, but he just looks and plays like a starting NFL guard. The 2025 guard class likely won't feature multiple first-rounders, but Ratledge feels like a safe bet to land in the top 32.

Donovan Jackson‘s and Connor Colby’s scouting reports read similarly: Both are fast, explosive movers with quick feet in the run and pass games. Both could also get functionally stronger in the run game, but those quick feet provide them with an early punch at contact and decent leg drive to wall off defenders even if they don’t truly displace often.

Jonah Savaiinaea is still playing right tackle for Arizona, but his body type and play style seem to fit better along the interior. He could be a starting NFL guard one day. Tyler Booker has been forced to play left tackle and his main position of left guard this season. His PFF grades are lower than expected, but he still has good depth tools and starting NFL potential if he can improve his balance and foot speed.

This draft will be Wolfe's make or break year. Right now it appears to be a draft of average to maybe just below average NFL potential. Wolfe is going to have to make sure that the scouts are really following guys who can be "step in" players or backups who can easily get up to speed. ZThe weak spots are the same as 2024, except the OL is starting to pull itself together. Zach Thomas and Demontrey Jacobs have begun to settle in and Owenu and Jordan seem to be comfortable at the Guard spots. Hate to say it, but Ben BNrown has been excellent at the center. This may not be what the future holds, but bringing in a top LT wouldn't hurt.

WR is the biggest problem right now. The powers that be have to make a couple of drastic moves and shake the shit out of these guys. Start Baker, along with Douglas, JaQuae Jackson the rookie from Rutgers and John Jiles, the rookie out of West Florida. Keep Polk off the active roster and sideline Bourne, Thorton and Osborne. Give the kids a chance to show whether they can catch the ball or not. If they can, don't turn back.

Now start looking for more youth to bring in through the draft.

Just don't be the old Patriots when free agency opens in March.

The risk is having a buncha vets watching kids catch balls that they've been dropping every week. If the kids are targeted 8 times each and catch 6 or 7, sign them to a two year extension immediately and trade the dropsy vets for 2035 7ths.

I don't think it's as easy as sitting them. Working them into game scenarios / situations okay I get that, but to say hey bench guy you are now a starter have fun, I don't think that bodes well for team spirit.

There is a time for drastic action. This may be that time.
I don't know what drastic action is called for but we are paying people to know.
I'm not worried about wins at this time but we better see improvement
Otherwise, we'll need 22 draft picks next year......
