100% right. Which is why I'm pissed we gave away two 4th round picks for some kibbles and bits.
There are no sure things, which is why I would ALWAYS pick the best player on the board instead of forcing it. And I think the Cowboys are best when they do the same. They wanted a corner when Micah fell into their lap. Jerry wanted a QB when Martin fell to them. They were locked in on a scrub DE when Lamb fell to them. I think you avoid the Taco Charltons of the world by picking the best guys. Believe me, if Jeanty or Graham or a dozen other guys are there, I would pick them instead. But of the last two drafts and I could have a guy like LaPorta or Bowers over Mazi or Guyton, if have done that in a blink
i think this best player stuff over need is a first round requirement. Witten was the best player for a need position in the 3rd round. Huge difference.

I don't disagree. Ive always thought the thing to do if you're picked 19-20 and you're 1st round grades are wiped out, is to trade back. I'll take a 2nd and 4th over a 2nd round grades 1st. Most scouts think this is the worst draft in years in that, even the best players on the board, had they been in last year's draft, would have been the 3rd-4th best at their position last year. I think Hunter and Graham are the only two from this year that would have gone top 12 last year.

I've heard you say many times, as have most on here, that drafting the best player available is always better than drafting for need. The TE will likely be the best player on the board when we pick on the teens. The Chargers took a TE in round one this year, Brock Bowers, and they got a future HOFer. The Cowboys drafted for need the last two years and got Mazi and Guyton. Do you think anyone would trade either guy straight up for Bowers? How about both of them for Bowers? Drafting the most talented player, even a TE isn't the problem for the Cowboys. Their problem is, they stopped signing free agents the last two years to fill needs before the draft and they are left forcing picks for need and here we are
I am always BPA but the discussion here is assuming what position that best player will be at I assume. I hope BPA is a position of need and that is always the tiebreaker when two players are both sitting there and ranked evenly. I don't think he would be the best player on the board and the Raiders drafted Bowers. Regardless what do Guyton and Mazi have to do with Bowers? That makes no sense. That's like saying Bryce Young hasn't been good so don't draft a QB.

Really liked what Dowdle has done over the past 3 games. Maybe he can be a legit #1. I am not against bringing him back if the price is right, especially if Jeanty is off the board. But they still do need to draft a RB in either round two or three.
If we seem to have a need we either draft stupid, I. E. Taco, mazi, schoony, or we don't try to address the problem.

Oh hell they don't get shit right in this organization unless a miracle drops on their lap, but then that's not a guarantee.

What I'm saying is, to me, if there's a guy sitting there that's a great TE(which I think Warren is) and the other guys sitting there are more 2nd round grades, I'm taking the sure thing. Some people make the same point you are making about Jeanty, and while I disagree with it, I understand it. I would take a great RB in the top 10, even if I know we will only have 5-6 good years instead of 10-12. Some people would never pick RB in round 1

The DT I would LOVE to see the Cowboys take if Tyne wait till round 2 is Deone Walker from Kentucky. This kid is an absolute monster, 6'6" 344, only 20 years old. He gets knocked for being lazy at times and not having a high motor, but I thought Dane Brugler made a great point, he said most of the high ranked DT's are playing 35 snaps a game, this kid plays 55-60. When this kid wants to get after it, I've seen him throw around some of the best SEC OL's like they were little kids

I think both are players. in this league. I think one is likely a star
Graham is not only talented, he has a great motor and is a big time leader. I think he will be closer to Aiden Hutchinson caliber than Mazi

i think drafting a TE in round one would be the final straw for me.

REALLY WOULD
I understand why you say this. A month ago the thought of drafting a TE was not on my radar.

I have changed my thought process on this a little after they won games and are likely picking in the middle of the first round. I don't see any Cee Dee type players dropping. I don't see any Cee Dees in this draft except for Hunter. I see very few elite prospects.

I see Hunter and Jeanty as can't miss and then I see these two tight ends. I could see these tight ends taken before the Cowboys pick

Dak needs help. He has Cee Dee and Ferguson and not much else. Ferguson just does not look the same this year.

I think they got to go BPA and by the time they pick the Penn State and Michigan tight ends could be the best players available. I fully expect both of them to gain more attention during the Combine. These two guys are serious weapons as receivers.

Don't sleep on that Michigan TE. Some have him rated higher than Warren.

That kid is a Heck of a player as well. The reason I like Warren more is his versatility. He his 6'6" 260, freak athlete, lines up inline, slot, outside, out of the backfield...was a HS QB and is super smart, knows how to find holes in zones..and the kid is nasty. Love his game. I do believe every one here is right in that we won't take him because we have so many bigger needs, but I think he would have a massive impact. We do have a good one in Ferguson, but he would go from a top 12-13 TE to the best #2 TE in the league. Schoony would go from one of the worst #2's to one of the best #3's

Lol, if they go "all in" and only bring back one or two of these guys? The roster will be mainly cheap un drafted free agents. I for sure don't see them paying Osa,Tank,Martin and Cooks.

Is Hoffman restricted? 2025 could be similar or even worse than this season

Wow. A lot more than I thought. I think Martin is retiring. Give me:
Tank, Lewis, Dowdle, Osa, Hoffman and Turpin and probably Kendricks or another vet with Overshown's injury and I'll be happy
Also like punter, Kendricks, Golston, Izzy and Bell but wouldn't cry if any of them left. I mean I really like Bell, but the team doesn't play him anyway so what's the difference

Hoffman is Exclusive Rights FA so they can keep him with a min offer. Bell, Turpin, Thomas and Wheat are RFA. The other 21 are UFA

If we don't at least keep the must keeps you and @PDay8810 listed, I don't see any way this team takes a step forward next season
