One thing has nothing to do with the other. Knecht looks fine in the summer league, the only piece/pick that would affect a big trade (and his pick wasn't tradeable at the deadline anyway). Do you think teams were clamoring for the #55 pick or Maxwell Lewis?

Is Trent the answer for the Lakers either? He's a bit small to cover wings and they have Reaves and just paid Christie at SG already, not to mention Knecht. He's a quality piece to add, no question.

Part of the issue with the Lakers dumping salaries with 2nds is that those may be needed to complete a bigger trade. Now if Pelinka hadn't given out player options to vet min signees like he wanted to be Oprah, the Lakers wouldn't have this issue.
