Cousins was playing great last year. I think getting Cousins is a better option than drafting a QB like McCarthy/Nix/Penix who might very well be a bust. Cousins is a proven solid QB who can provide consistency at the position and that’s what the Falcons need right now - the NFC South is probably the weakest division in the NFL and by getting Cousins the Falcons are probably the favorites to win it - their D improved a lot last year and they have talented offensive players.
Cousins was playing great last year. He also got hurt last year and is only 5 months younger than Matt Stafford. Falcons have a young team and Cousins will not be around for the young players to be veterans. There is a chance this ends up like Carr to the Saints.

It’s the best option for the Falcons to sign Cousins if they don’t trade into the top 3 picks. Cousins would instantly make them the favorites in the division and a playoff caliber team. Whereas drafting someone like Nix/McCarthy/Penix would just put the Falcons in the same situation they were in last year with a complete unknown at QB and it’s likely their QB play wouldn’t improve much and they would just finish 7-10 at best again.

Several weeks ago I thought he'd get $40-45M per year, and that was when I was projecting the cap at $243M. Given the cap boost i'm surprised he isn't pushing $50M, but I guess he may be when it all shakes out.

Im not saying those guys are CJ Stroud or anything but they're way better prospects than Ridder.

One of those QBs will likely be starting for the Vikings if I had to guess.

I guess he depends on many teams are bidding on him at this point

True, and it's a very limited market. 20+ teams are locked in on their existing starter, some of the others aren't ready to compete, (so an expensive starter doesn't make sense), and 1 or 2 of those left might have cap issues. It's looked like a 2-way choice between the Vikings and Falcons for some time. It might not turn out that way but equally his market could dip significantly if 1 of those 2 teams finds another option.

It’s almost certain the Cowboys will draft an O-Lineman with their first round pick now. I already figured that’s where they would go - the good news for them is it’s a deep class of good O-Linemen this year.

Feels like there is a 50/50 shot you just end up with late-career Matt Ryan again when it comes to Cousins, though.
except cousins was playing at an MVP level last year when he got hurt. I dont see him falling off a cliff. & Atlanta is a smart place for both. Cousins & the Falcons. They have plenty of tools for Cousins & the Falcons need a QB like Cousins. (vs. what they have)

well if the class is deep. They may not need to use a 1st on OL.

I agree with half of that, at least. Atlanta is the best spot for Cousins

You can have him.

6 years. A .500 record outside of 2022, which was a clear fluke getting done at home by Daniel Jones. One playoff win and 180 million invested into a giant waste of time.

If you want to drop 90 million into a 36 year old QB with an Achilles injury, by all means, knock yourself out.

That being said, I think the Falcons trade for Fields and the Vikings end up holding the big bag of money out for 8 win Kirk yet again.

"You like Cash?!"
