Gentlemen, I'm going to say this one more time and leave it at that. Drafting ANY player, especially a QB high and it doesn't work out, isn't setting your team back for half a decade. Incompetence and trying to make something work longer than necessary sets you back.
There is a lot of evidence, as many have posters have pointed out, that you are off base with this opinion. It set this team back at least 5 years.

Was Houston's roster a year ago any better than Washington's current roster? They draft a good QB, get a new coach and went from the 2nd worse team in the league to competing for a playoff spot the next season. Burrow went to the team with the worst OL in the league and went to the Super Bowl. .Other things matter but nothing matters as much as a franchise QB and a good head coach.

donyou really think Herbert or tua could have succeeded on this team with this oline? they would have been whiffs here also.
I don't think they would have been near as successful with Snyder and this coaching staff.

Where's ANY evidence that supports being setback for at least 5 years?

That was organizational incompetence! I'm still waiting on any real evidence that supports this.

I have an idea of what I'm looking for in a QB if he doesn't show me something close to those expectations within his first year starting (he sits a year first) then I'm thinking about his ability to become a multiple-SB winning QB. That said, It's incumbent on me to fashion the offense to something similar to what caused me to draft him in the first place.

For the record, Howell is a poor fit for this team as constructed. He needs powerful lines and game-changers all around him because he isn't one.
in this day and age you cant have your top 5 pick sit a year then go into yr 2 thinking he has all the answers

the issue here is drafting an elite qb is an outlier not common place and people want to make outliers common place

and of course we do have the purdy situation . purdy is a good qb , who makes plays but certainly doesnt carry that team or raise anyone's play on that team at this moment in time . whatbthe 49ers have is a good defense , outstanding o/line and weapons for him to use and he does in fact mostly makes good reads

and you are correct , sam is a poor fit for this team as constructed because the o/line is a mess , his weapons arent playing up to their capabilities(rob hurt , AG going south , dotson regressing , mac not getting open LT got old ) and the defense is awful even with sweat and chase .

the team has flat out quit universally save Sam and the coaching is atrocious all around . if you look at his numbers , his numbers are equal to of better then some of the best qbs in the game today and some of the all time greats

i wouldnt draft a qb in the top 10 this year but if i was forced into it i would take maye because he does more with less

come on sty , rg3 went to another team and couldnt hack it , shuler went to congress, haskins was a3rd team guy with the steelers

and isnt it organizational incompetence by draft busts over and over again ?

Injuries account for some of the failings of high draft picks.
Most failings can be directly linked to organizational dysfunction.
Poor fit rounds out the top three reasons why high draft picks fail.

Anecdotes relative to one person place or thing isn't evidence that supports this point. Evidence, in this case has to be something that applies consistently to the majority. Using Washington as typical is laughable.

this is a great point another reason why we should go LT with our first-round pick. But i can also see the argument of taking a QB with our 1st rounder.,

we didnt miss on KC we missed on RG3 , so missing on a qb sets the team back potentially 1/2 a decade . now i am thinking i am going to have a change of heart at qb and getting one . if we pick one in the top 4 and the new regime wants it then i think i should support it and go with sam as a BU which would solidify the position
rg3 played in a game not at 100 percent and it led to his downfall.who and why somebody allowed it remains a mystery.

the players all had good coaching which washington,s lacked for a while.

RG 3 had serious flaws in his passing game which showed up on film over and over again . he spent his entire career trying to fix it but he couldnt
