Keep in mind that the vast history of DPOY that award has gone to the center who is the best rim protector.

Times are slowly changing.

But that to me doesn’t mean that Dwight was a better defender than AD. He just better fit the mold of the player who typically wins DPOY.

I’ve read just the opposite. There was no handshake deal and what Harden is alluding to with the lie is that when he opted in that Morey agreed that he would try and trade him.

Looking more and more like Harden didn’t have that wink/wink agreement. There’s dozens of quotes out there he’s given about why he took less. There’s the reality that his agent was leaking Houston stuff as a negotiating ploy numerous times last year. Why are you worried about a negotiation if you have a handshake deal? Doesn’t make sense. His actions and his words say he never had anything like that.

Harden was leaking those Houston rumors months ago, so one has to wonder why he decided to opt in all based on a handshake agreement.
If it was just verbal, all Morey has to say is Harden misunderstood.

I really think it’s a typical Silver move. People are talking so let’s go through the motions and say we looked into it. Then release some statement that they found nothing but carefully word it to make sure Harden doesn’t look like he’s lying.
