Beal's contract is so bad they're only gonna be able to do so much. Plus, in their situation, getting back expirings (especially if they just cut them), isn't all that bad. They need to bottom out and start over. Would it be nice to at least get one decent player (like say Herro) back? Sure. But getting off Beal is a win by itself. If all they get is expirings and a couple of picks, they did well.
But they didn’t. You can’t erase the past that says they held on to this asset for way to long. If you just assess right now in a vacuum, then I agree. But if you look at the whole picture this is text book mismanagement and poor decision making.

Phoenix needs a guy like FVV more than Beal. Phoenix should trade with them once Toronto resigns FVV....and I think they will.

The Wizards have absolutely written the textbook for mismanaging an NBA franchise.

True but no players line up to go to Washington, Dallas, Indiana, Orlando, etc.

But why though?

There are only a very small number of true destination markets in the NBA.

Washington isn’t a bad market. It isn’t top tier by any stretch. But if they had a competently run organization with a promising young core, they could get guys.

We just haven’t ever seen that.

Orlando has been a destination before

When it was competently run, even during a mini rebuild

Dallas apparently the issue the lack of nightlife

It’s built for oil money, not nba players

Dallas isn’t a destination either for that reason.

But I don’t think they are a bad market. They have a lot of other things going for them.

I think Dallas is a great market

They got some middle guys during the dirk prime years but haven’t been able to pull max guys

Orlando for hill and mcgrady and was about 5 minutes from pulling Duncan and improving nba history about 2 million fold

Yeah i been to DC a few times. Definitely a nice place for young guys. Nice nightlife there so if they had a more competent organization then more people would go

People forget that in the NBA everybody is cap strapped. That means in any given year you only have 2-3 franchises that can pay the whole value without sign and trade.

O
I think it goes beyond that

You are suspending a player for something he did inside his own property that was not a crime and had no actual harm done to anyone or anything

I understand the nba trying to protect the brand, but that is a jet landing strip worth a leeway for silver going forward
Oh bullshit, code of conduct is nothing new
