They're at 169.2M for 5 players. A S&T would cap them at 179M, with a 1 for 1 trade putting them over that number slightly. Kyrie would have to sign for less than his cap hold of $42.5M and the Suns would be more or less done.

Makes no sense, since the reason they were trying to trade Ayton was to divide his salary between multiple players to add depth before signing a bunch of vet min FAs.

It's just Kyrie trying to pull a Harden and use other teams' perceived interest to up his contract offer.
