Overdue for Howley ... 5 all-pros, 6 pro bowls plus a SB MVP. There can't be many guys with that who had to wait 50 years.

Kind of crazy that Don Coryell Joe Klecko and Chuck Howley didn't get into the Hall of Fame until 2023

How many of this class has never won the Super Bowl? If this is standard in which we judge Qb's, then it should be the standard in which we judge all players as well as coaches.
Come on, a Qb can barely rarely get in if they haven't won a Super Bowl, because they are the leader, but a head coach can? I smell some double standard chit here!

I agree. I believe Klecko is the only player to be All Pro at 3 different positions on the D line. The guy was an absolute beast.

It's not really a double standard. The QB position is the most important player on the team and effects the game in so many way so in some cases if they don't win it does reflect the QB. Joe Klecko for instance didn't make a Super Bowl because his QB Richard Todd never missed an open Linebacker in a big game. But he was All Pro almost every year. But the truly great QB's like Marino and Fouts do get in without rings. On the reverse side, Plunkett has 2 rings and isn't in.

So happy for Ken Riley. No longer with us unfortunately, but he's in. He's on my Bengals' Mount Rushmore.

There are at least a half dozen QBs in the hof who did not win the big one, whether it be pre-SB or SB era. There will be more. I agree that it should not be a requirement, but it makes a little bit more sense in this era when QBs are more important to winning that ever.

Much of the same can be said for a Head Coach though. I don't think Coryell ever won a Super Bowl as a head coach, maybe as an assistant or a coordinator of some sort.

Yes, I agree. I don't think it should be a requirement, but often seems to be the case.

That's probably why he had to wait so long. He died 13 years ago at 85. He was an innovator. W/L records and winning the big one should be an expectation for HOF coaches.

Coryell was seen an an innovator in the passing game and it took a long time for him to get in. If he had won one he's probably in decades ago

The 1st 6 names are solid, but maybe not the 6 I would have picked. I missed most of Klecko's career but I specifically remember him stiffing the Jets with his final contract. Money is money but it probably hurt him if the owner didn't push for his HoF entrance.
