A lot of FA QBs this off season:

Couldn't get all of them in on one screen shot, but 38 of them. Now they do a market value for some, so I took a look:

No way do I want the Seahawks to pay that. Took a look at Giants QB Jones who is also a FA:

Much rather give Jones 25 million than 39 to Geno. Geno is more in the Jimmy G range talent wise IMO only older and more mistake prone.
It would be a mistake to be tied to him more than a single season ( as insurance for the rookie). Those last 6 games is what you should expect to get from Geno and he'll decline from that soon. Seahawks need take a shot at a QB this draft. The sooner you pick one the better the odds of hitting, but they could still wait until 2nd or 3rd round to take that shot I suppose, but won't be the route I would take ( not that my route counts for anything). In any case Geno isn't the answer and I hope to God the Seahawks don't waste money that could be used better else where on the roster.
Yeah, I've been pointing out the high volume of free agent QBs for this coming off-season in multiple threads here over the past couple months. I think it makes tons of sense to bring Geno back, but of course I want to get him at the lowest possible price in order to leave max room under the cap to improve the weaker parts of the roster. I think we probably all can agree on that. I hope that so many decent QBs on the market will soften Geno's price tag a bit.

The team's main bargaining chips as I see it: 1) lots of other QB options in free agency and 2) Geno has had a limited track record of success, and the only place he had it was Seattle.

I guess we'll soon see how it shakes out.

I'm still saying get a cheap Minshew at QB for 2 years as you groom someone. Resign Lock as he should be cheap and let them battle it out. We got bigger needs on Defense to use our picks on.

Geno is good enough to get us close to the playoffs, minshew would guarantee a top 10 pick even with an improved defense.

If we wind up with a bottom 10 team next year that would almost certainly be the end of the Pete era.

Throwing minshew out there as your starter for 17 games is a recipe for disaster. Dude is nothing more than a backup

I don't think that is even a possibility. We are either resigning Geno or drafting a QB.

If it doesn't work out with Geno, I can see the team going after a 2nd tier FA QB that will be a lot less expensive (than Geno/Carr/Jimmy G/L Jackson) and then seeing what the QB situation ends up being in the draft. But I do think the team's preference is to have Geno as the starter in '23.

Personally I think there is almost no chance that we don't resign Geno. If we don't, for whatever reason, then we will be drafting a QB in the 1st round and expecting him to be QB1 sometime during the season.

I agree signing Geno is the most likely outcome. Not sure exactly what the 2nd most likely would be, but it's a distant 2nd whatever it is.

Agreed.

I would put resigning Geno at around 90%. 8% chance of drafting a QB of the future with one of our 1st round picks. 2% we sign someone else.

Id say its closer to 60-40 signing geno. If he wants to maximize his deal I dont think we can keep him.

At the same time, if even grandma knows we need to draft a QB it increases the risk a team will trade into pick 4 (assuming the colts trade up to #1).

It makes for the most interesting offseason in Carroll's entire tenure

I wonder if Pete/John like Drew Lock enough and decide to just sign him if Geno moves on... Then they can still draft a QB while having Drew Lock on a 1 year prove it deal...

Well, we will probably have that answer no later than 48 hours after free agency starts because I think Geno will have a deal in place with someone by then, and that probably tells the story on whether Drew Lock might be interested in coming back. I suspect the team is going to make a concerted effort to have Geno extended before he hits the market, and if that happens then Lock is likely moving on.

Interesting breakdown on whether to cut J. Adams or keep him... He's still under contract for 3 more years... We also would take a 21 million cap hit if we cut him before June 1st this year... But after June 1st? That's an option where we could allocated the hit over a few years at a time...

The question is whether Adams is still effective or not

Agreed. Seattle signed Geno this off-season, seemingly negotiating against themselves into a potentially $7 million contract after he played mediocrely in 3 starts and had that massive DUI black eye fresh on the memory. After a season where Geno exceeded expectations and played pretty well overall, there's no reason to not take the Seahawks at their word that they want to re-sign him. I expect the team to make a major push to re-sign him, and I expect it to be for more than what fans are thinking he's worth.

Second highest paid kicker in the league now. That cap space will get used up quickly just filling out the 51 man roster.

I'm ok with this... All those years trying to find a consistent kicker - glad that's behind us for the time being...
