Watson could play hardball and refuse any trade and say he'll report. What will the Texans do, keep him? He has a 40 Million dollar cap hit this year.

It doesn't do him any good to go to a team that has to give up 3 1st round picks plus other picks and players. That just makes his destination team worse. Why not be obstinate and refuse any trade and see who blinks?

Eh, just playing out some game theory on this.
His 2022 salary is guaranteed so they would end up paying 51 million if they cut him. So if he refuses to OK a trade he'll remain in Houston. Not playing for 2 season is not a resume enhancer.

Hasn't really worked out for teams handing out those big contracts.

He is likely going to get suspended for most of the season. So the hit against the team isnt going to be what you think it is. And Texans are still in complete rebuild mode and are likely eyeing QB's at the top of NEXT year's draft class. And I am sure Lovie would love a year to try and talk Watson into playing for him.

I wouldnt temp the Texans to keep him on the roster if I was Watson. They might just oblige.

You dont temp a person with nothing to lose. The only thing the Texans have to lose this coming season is their ability to lose.
It'll be closer to 4-6 games.

Edge is becoming a Premier Position

Not an overpay
*Errrr, um, various sounds of hesitation*

I am not angry about the deal but we have a lot of needs and I would have liked 4 years for 68-72 million.....it's a slight overpay but we couldn't afford to let him leave.

This could be the year TB shows rapid decline.

An OL left and 1 retired. They can't afford to replace those 2 in FA.....and the draft? He'll have some young untested guys blocking for him. He will go off on them if they miss their blocking assignments.....

That Kirk contract is pretty hilariously bad.

I'm guessing that WRs are hitting a new tier in positional value if thats normal. Adjust your mock drafts accordingly.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Christian Kirk's four-year deal with the Jaguars is worth "up to" $84 million.

Ay caramba! Mamma mia! It sounds like the base level is a slightly — emphasis on slightly — more reasonable $72 million, but it is still backing up the Brinks truck and making a 25-year-old wideout who has never had a 1,000-yard season one of the highest-paid receivers in the league. It's a function of desperation, and a receiver market picked clean by franchise tags and re-signings. Kirk is downgrading both teams and quarterbacks in Jacksonville, while new coach Doug Pederson never oversaw a 1K campaign by a wideout in Philly. Translation, even if Kirk proves to be a good "real life" add, the fantasy arrow is pointing downward.
