I just stopped for lunch in Amarillo and found out about the trade. It sounds good. I wonder what this does for Huff.

I am fine with Ibanez at 3B. Maybe one of the prospects replaces him at some point this year.
Ibanez is a bench player good for the occasional start but is not good enough to be an everyday starter or batter unless you don't care what the team does. name 1 team where Ibanez would even be considered for an everyday spot, but he would be on my bench

The Rangers aren't contending this year, so plugging Ibanez in at 3B for one season means very little.

Wonder if Davis Wendzel has a good spring, would he get a shot at 3B.
i would rather go that route than put a bench player full time there. at least it would appear that we're giving him a chance and not just tanking

Tanking? We don't have a pitcher either but one has to believe trades are still on the table. Besides we are not in contention quite yet. Way to early to think tank.

I can't even comprehend how a team that spends half a billion on free agents could be considered "tanking"

okay bad day but when we start talking about playing a bench player and talking about how it isn't important it'll only be for a year it kind of got to me

IKF was only going to be there this year as it was, with nowhere but the bench to go after that. Ibanez is a downgrade, absolutely, but we've got 3B figured out long term, so downgrading this year is acceptable.

Im not even certain Ibanez is a downgrade... at least offensively... definitely defensively though

I thought of that too. Maybe he goes down for a couple of months and then gets brought up, if he doesn't win a job in ST.

well we'll just agree to disagree. signing a decent 3b starter to a 1 year deal makes more sense. trading for a decent 3b starter to fill the bill this coming season, hell even looking at Wendzel to open the season at 3rd makes more sense than putting a career bench player out there for a season

I wonder if Woodward's affinity for playing IKF helped the front office to pursue a trade. Maybe they thought this way they could prevent Woodward from playing him without having to tell him so directly. Probably not, but the thought did cross my mind.

oh well yeah there are better options than Ibanez, sure. I'm just saying that trading IKF helped the team in more than one area, and is the opposite of tanking.

i agree as long as we don't just stick Ibanez out there. i like him and Yonny and think they make for good IF bench part until some of the prospects come up

Agree and things do happen quick and unexpected like Woody stating IKF would play 3rd and traded him two days later. Ibanez is destined to the bench at some time before long.

You sir make me think ala shades of Washington when JD brought Profar up and would not play him

That came to my mind but I thought maybe you give Ibanez a shot and if he does well fine if not then to the minors
Re Davis W. You have more versatility and is more ideal as a utility guy. And could plug him in temporarily

That being said I am not sure if Davis W is ready for the bigs

Let’s see who they play at 3B in spring training. Just don’t see us investing much at 3B with Jung here. Foscue has a shot too. Maybe bring him up in a couple months

This team is far from being settled
