Not really.

They are the Lakers. A lot easier to rebuild in LA than most markets.

Yeah, sure. They will probably suck for a few years. But it won’t be long before they have a new core. And unlike most franchises, they don’t have to always rely on the draft to get the main pieces.

I still don't understand the idea of extending Lebron. They'll have barely any cap to build a team. They've got no one of consequence to Bird right into the luxury. It's a weird build.

Losing Russ will help but not enough.

Keeping LeBron is better than losing LeBron.

If they are somehow able to trade Russ for Hield and Turner, this team has a legit shot to contend.

Extending LeBron makes management feel better about making that trade.

I am still perplexed as to why Indiana would make that deal but alas anything is possible

Agreed on having lebron is better than no lebron provided they can somehow form a team around him. I'm just struggling to see how that happens.

I don’t get that either.

Should take more than 2 firsts to trade Russ for 2 pretty good players.

Not only that, but this front office has shown they can find secondary pieces in the draft

You show some backbone like those nets did that got kyrie abs Durant’s attention, and you’ll get guys who want to play in la

There are 3 reasons.
1. 1st round picks are valuable. They can use them or package them for players to help their rebuild. Plus, especially with the 2027 pick, they may catch the Lakers trying to rebuild, so it could be a high pick.
2. $47 million in expiring money for cap space.
3. Butts in seats. Westbrook is a "name" that folks will show up to watch without winning you too many games and hurting your lottery chances.

4) there is an argument that hield's non-expiring contract is underwater, or at least neutral.

I'd still ask for Christie or another 2nd, but that's just me.

Not really.

1-They will trade RW for some help, most likely add those 2 picks and get Hield and Turner....add those 2 to James, AD and co.....they are a lot better than last season.

2-Even if they kept RW and had him sit at home or buy him out, they still have James and AD.....never underestimate the business side where you have to sell those expensive Laker seats.....the 2, most specifically James sell them.

3-If they sat or bought out Russ, they'd have cap space next summer.

They are blowing it up there. And doesn't seem like there is a lot of interest in Hield.....Charlotte should have interest in Turner.....that is why I wouldn't fuck around if I were Pelinka.

Yep and to the 3rd point.....they could start RW and play Halliburton off the bench for 30 mpg.....and stagger their minutes so they aren't playing a lot together.

I like him and McGee, Dinwiddle, Hardaway and company but those guys aren't getting by Steph, Klay, Draymond, either healthy LA team, Denver, ect.
Got to have another top dog so it doesn't all fall on Luka
No easy feat...to get another stud.

Didn't realize Turner was respectable trey shooter for a C.
Yep. Like KAT he’s a pussy who plays away from the basket. His matchups vs Embiid are hilarious. He wants nothing to do with playing Embiid. Always takes 2 1Q fouls so he can go to the bench. Dude is a pussy.
