Provorov, Sanheim, and Risto. You might have 2 top 4 pieces there, but it's not like you have a no doubt about it #1 or #2 guy there at this point.
Ok that clarifies that as i was going to point that out of DeAngelo Sanheim Prov and Risto 3 of the 4 are a strong top 4.
I also believe that Prov or/and DeAngelo will be gone by the deadline.

Honestly, I'd trade the Flyers roster and contract situation for the Blue Jackets one. In a heartbeat. They're bad, sure. But they have 6.75M tied up on defense past 23-24. They've got a bunch (18.5M) tied up in Laine and Gaudreau, but at least Gaudreau is actually good. They only add Kuraly at 2.5M in terms of guys signed beyond 23-24. And with how bad they are, they'll be in position to get some good draft picks in the next couple seasons. They seem to actually know they're bad and are behaving accordingly.

Meanwhile the Flyers have 18.1M tied up on defense past 23-24 on 3 guys that nobody would look at as a strong top 4 defense. And they have 35M tied up in a forward group signed past 23-24 that is tied for 2nd worst in the league in goals per game. And save for Couturier, Gaudreau is leaps and bounds better than all of them. Couturier and Atkinson make them better, sure. But even assuming they come back from 2 back surgeries and a neck surgery at 100%, how much better do they really make them?

I don't know where you get your optimism from with this team right now, but I'd love a taste of it. Because I don't see this team being anywhere close to competitive for 5 years. And every day they keep Fletcher risks adding more time on to that.
Any real optimism I have for this roster would require that it be 100% healthy first so we can see what the team is truly made of. That's clearly not going to ever happen (not as currently constructed at least).

It's unfortunately an unofficial tank job. But if that was the plan, why in the fuck would we bring in Torts to reside over it!? It just makes zero sense.

I saw an article claiming we could buy out Hayes. Wow. Let's fuck over our franchise for another 6 years by paying a guy to just walk.

Yep. The Risto signing and Torts hiring make no sense if the plan is to rebuild. And not doing everything you can to bring Gaudreau in makes zero sense if the plan is to go for it. Either tear it down and bring in a sacrificial lamb as a coach, or tie those 1st round picks you have to bad contracts in order to sign Gaudreau.

The only rationalization I can make of it is sometime between June 17th when they hired torts and July 14th when Gaudreau signed, they learned that one or all of Couturier, Atkinson, and Ellis would be out for at least the majority of the season and as a result there was no way they'd be competitive. It's definitely not the story they told the past 6 months, but it's the only way any of their last 9 months or so makes sense. But even that doesn't explain why they'd still sign Deangelo. But at least that's just a 2 year deal.

2023-24 — $2,253,968
2024-25 — $4,753,968
2025-26 — $4,753,968
2026-27 — $1,611,111
2027-28 — $1,611,111
2028-29 — $1,611,111

That's from the link las posted on the last page. That's actually not as bad as I thought a buyout for Hayes would be.

I dont think that we should buy him out until at least after the 24-25 season as we aren't going to competitive anyway. IMO that extra 2.4 million wed save in 24-25 will be a difference maker.

Here’s why you bring in torts - this team is totally without talent. Thank you Hexy and WTFC. But as this board constantly echos - torts gets more out of bad talent than most. He also get the players to play hard - we’ve all said there is more effort and that is good to watch.

SOOooooo …. You bring in torts to keep the fan base watching a low talent team (see above hexy & wtfc). Torts gets his salary, microphone and almost zero expectations for this team. Sweetheart deal for him, and Comcast gets asses in seats and tv ad revenue. All makes perfect sense.

Remember - if you see a contradiction, you’re missing something.

If I'm paying him nearly $5 million to not play for us during two seasons, I'd rather just keep him through those seasons and try to get the most out of him. He's only signed for 3 more seasons after this one. We will be free and clear of him after that. Do we wish his contract length had been 2-3 seasons less? Sure, but that's a pill we have to just swallow at this point.

In my opinion, it's definitely a bad move to buy him out this summer.

While it's great to change the culture and identity of the franchise, this was the wrong season to go about doing it...Lol

Fuck Comcast and Fletcher for this shit.

Also, I can't watch any of the games lately because they are all fucking blacked out on ESPN+. I don't fucking understand it.

Just for the record:

Last year's team: 13-14-6 & 32 points through 33 games (lost 16 of next 18 games)

This year's team: 11-15-7 & 29 points through 33 games

Call me crazy, but I bet this team will amass more points than last season's 61....and with less skill/talent too (minus Giroux, Atkinson, Couturier, Brassard etc.).

JvR and Braun will probably get traded away later as well.

Hopefully the draft lottery and the hockey gods reward us for playing hard and competing, because there are about 5 other teams that are trying harder than us to get the top pick. That's about all that can be said.

The Frost, Tippett and JvR looked good last night. Still have no clue why JvR is on the ice at the end of the game with a 1 goal lead. Also, York is getting better and better.

100% agree that line looked awesome last night and has been IMO our best line over the last 3-5 games, I always crush Frost but he is playing better lately.

Problem is that Frost plays well for a few games and then disappears. It looks, however, that he is gaining confidence and making some plays that he wasn't trying to make earlier in the season.

Wade Alison coming back didn't hurt. He looked good and is a perfect player for Torts style of play. Im pretty sure our record with him is much better than without him. If he could only stay healthy.

2 wins in our last 3 games.

If we could just keep up that pace we will be playoff bound. :D
