Im just hoping to see some big improvement from prospects this season. Next season a bunch of contracts are up, phanuef and carts are done....how the kings consume all that cap + how the prospects turn into (or dont) pro talent could determine the next 3 or 4 seasons

I always wondered how teams stay competitive, year and year out, while other teams flounder.

It would be interesting to see where the '12 team would have sit on this chart?
The 2012 team had talent, they underachieved through December 2011 until Sutter was brought on board. This team is devoid of any real talent at all minus Kopitar and Doughty really.

That team was .500 exactly midway through the season, Murray was fired, Sutter was hired and kicked their asses and they started going on a tear in late January 2012. Carter comes in around mid February and the integration of him was seamless because they were picking up momentum as it was.

They snuck in as the 8th seed literally in the last weekend of the season, which tells you how far they had to climb after they dug that hole through December. Considering they went on an ungodly tear from January on and steam rolled everyone in the POs, that tells you how much talent they had but just couldn't put it together the first 40 games for whatever reason. Once they got rolling though, damn did they mess teams up.

This team is a far cry from that team, absolutely no comparison whatsoever. They had talent spread out in all positions.

The Kings really need some of their prospects to break through and establish themselves as NHL regulars this season from the 2017 and 2018 drafts for sure, maybe from 2019. Too soon for 2020 and 2021 kids.

Otherwise they are screwed for a while after blowing that cap space and not really landing an impact player.

But but but...in Bowlby we trust!

=)~~
I’m not sure why you call Flake Bowlby, but regardless of the name I never though and still don’t think that he’s any good at being GM. Lucky took the smart job. President, he didn’t want to be smeared by being GM. Lucky may actually get to keep his job. But, Flake should never been given the reigns of this team.

That's his middle name, Robert Bowlby Blake.

Robotile (man I miss that, anyone remember that one?) is a puppet, he was under Dumbo too if you recall. He's a punch in punch out dude. Doesn't matter who the GM is.He has no balls as an executive and juat does what the organizational mandate is.

Blake definitely is the higher profile of the two in regards to decision making, but I completely agree, hw should never have been handed the keys to this franchise. He is not qualified nor smart enough to make it all happen.

Anyone notice Daniel Brickley is no longer part of the organization?

He was a Blake collegiate signing in March 2018 with a lot of hype, including Defensive Player of the Year in the WCHA in 2016. He got a small taste of the NHL (5 total games over 2 years) but none in the last 2 years (2019-20, 2020-21).

He had some personal issues, I believe his father passing away (to which I can totally relate) so that obviously affected him, but he was deemed a "can't miss prospect" not that long ago. He wasn't tendered his MQO in July and is now a GVI UFA free to sign with any team in any league.

Just your gentle reminder that no matter how much hype these guys come into the NHL with, most times that does not meet expectations at the NHL level.

With so many prospects defined as "quality" in the Kings system, it should all be taken with a grain of salt and reality. The reason I say this is because there are fans all over The Athletic who automatically assume guys like Kaliyev and Turcotte for example are sure shot NHLers who will step in this season.

Hold your horses there Super Fan.

I did notice that he was no longer with the team.

That sound you hear is all of the wind coming out of our sails with all of the talk that our farm system is so stacked. LOL

NHL places too much emphasis on potential. Who will be the next superstar. Potential gets you jack. And we all know Jack MF Johnson’s potential got us a cup or two because someone else bought his potential and his -119 career plus/minus

The deal with Head Fake was he showed us who he was after 5 years in the big show. Dumbo wasn't hesitant to move his top picks/players (Schenn, Simmonds, Teubert who unfortunately they completely missed on, Johnson, Penner for a 1st, the list is endless) to improve the team but I can't think of a deal he made that was an overpay or over the top. He was a great evaluator of talent and knew when to fold them.

Blake hasn't done any of that because well, none of this drafts have produced a player who plays consistently to evaluate whether you keep them or move them. That is a huge concern of mine considering this team lacks massive talent and guys drafted 4-5 years ago should have been in the line up starting as early as 2 years ago.

I don't mean to be a downer but I'm just tired of hearing about how loaded the system is. I can almost guarantee 80%+ of these prospects will never make it as full timers, not in LA anyway if at all. The drafting has definitely slipped since Dumbo was fired, he had a knack for finding gems and developing them (Martinez, Simmonds, even Walker was drafted under Dumbo and not Blake).

Anyone also notice the mass exodus of front office/key people? Solomon, Futa, Imoo, O'Connell, these were key guys in winning those titles. Philosophical difference on how they see the team in the future vs Bowlbys vision? Quite possibly.

My bad, Roy not Walker. 2alker was a collegiate UFA signing, Blake's go to well for players.

I was telling a friend of mine this the other day. In the case of Imoo, I wonder if the Kings saw signs of issues with his "personal views" and deemed it better to move away from him. He was hired but the Leafs and fired today.

Ahh the politics. Canada is a socialist country, wouldn't expect anything less. I'd love to see a moderate or conservative place do something like that to a Democrat or something, shit would hit the fan.

I put that on the Loafs, you should do your homework.

Anyone keeping tabs on the Evander Kane drama?

Declares BK, has a gambling addiction, is betting on NHL games, his estranged pregnant wife and other child are not being supported by him and can't even buy formula, he's gallivanting around Europe somehow, the NHL is investigating because it's possible he threw games he played in to win money and several Sharks players told Wilson and Boughner they don't want him back next season at exit interviews citing no accountability for his behavior including lazy practice habits and overall just being a shit teammate.

Problem is he has 4 years left on his 7 year/$49 million deal and the only way out will be if he is found to have gambled so they can terminate his contract. No NHL team is going to touch this guy again.

Dude has a history of being a douchebag in every NHL city he has played in, good luck with that mess Wilson.
