The NBA is doing whatever it can to maximize revenues. Which is why the vote for the play-in tournament was 30-0.

Players complaining about the play-in tournament once they think they might have to actually play in it is pretty silly.

Oh, I agree that's why they're doing it and I think it's ultimately a good idea. Fans of at least a few teams that would probably be tanking right now, have a reason to keep watching and attending games. More fan interest means more revenue.

Added revenue aside, I think it may also help to curb some of the tanking and it gives the league more ground to stand on if they decide to start punishing teams for tanking. They can say "We've created another path to get in and you still want to tank?"

My only issue with Lebron saying what he said is that he apparently said something different when the Lakers weren't looking at the possibility of having to actually play in it. If his opinion was consistent, I really wouldn't care what he thought about it. Say what you want about it, but be consistent.

Even if he has changed his opinion, for whatever reason, then say you've changed your opinion and why. Don't just say someone should lose their job over something you originally had no problem with.

I just don't like the idea of it. Maybe I'm old school. I like the regular playoff format. But I agree they should have waited until next season for this experiment.

I'm old school too. But I also want more basketball. I'm also hoping it will help as a tanking deterrent.

Pretty much agree here.

Honestly, I think that Lebron is feeling pretty exhausted in general right now. Couple this comment and his comment about how he feels that he will never feel fully healthy again in his career, and I'm guessing that he's just run out of gas a little.

Doesn't mean he can't turn it back on but he's played a LOT of basketball in the past 10 months and he's 35.

Tanking deterrence is definitely the best thing about the play-in. It won't completely eliminate it but there is a lot of financial incentive for teams to get a playoff spot.

I love it. What's the harm? Those 7 and 8 seed teams are never winning anything why not make it fun for the fans?

So do I. More basketball. More teams with a way to get in. Maybe a team that had a lot of injuries, get some guys back and are able to make a bit of a run when they would otherwise be out.

Your Warriors could be a good example. Imagine if they're sitting at 9 or 10 and got Klay back. They likely don't win a title, but what higher seeded team would want to see them in the first round?

I just would have preferred to see this started in a more "normal" season.

And if he were being honest...I'll bet that's his real reason.

Tanking isn't a good thing, bad look for the league. So the league can generate even more loot why not let any team with a .420 winning % in the playoffs?

Another bad idea would be to expand March Madness to 222 teams. And expand the CFB playoff to every team that finishes the regular season ranked in the top 20.

There were a lot of people that thought that going to a 64 team college basketball tournament was unecessary.

There are practical reasons why expanding the number of playoffs teams would be bad for the league.

The NBA playoffs are just fine the way they are. But I hope this playoff stunt the league is doing this season is only a one year experiment.

Like the 64 team set-up for March Madness. But they obviously already changed it. And with 300-something D-I programs I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere down the road it's expanded again.

CFB. I think it's only a matter of time before that playoff is expanded.

You are clearly in the minority on the play-in games. But to each their own.

I get what you're saying. But the league needed to do something. They lost money last year and they're going to lose money this year. So they needed to come up with a way to try to recoup some of those losses over the next few years.

This is a way to do that. Not sure what else they could do that would have as much of a potentially immediate impact.

Kind of the same re: tanking. Nobody likes that and it's definitely a bad look. Imo, this provides incentive for fewer teams to tank and gives the league a stronger position if they decide to actually start punishing teams for it.

Even if you don't like it, I think you likely understand the "why" behind it.

Oh I know why. And you're right, not a fan of it.

A Warriors-Lakers play in game would be a lot of fun. Let's hope it happens.
