There's no way in H E Double Hockey Sticks that Boston trades for Harden...
Santa left a Harden in Danny's stocking last night. It'll cost the trade exception and the C's 2021 first round pick which will be #32, Javonte Green and Grant Williams. And Sofia Vegara for @Gman suicide watch.

No way in H E Double Hockey Sticks that Houston would accept a low-ball offer like that, either. ;)

... the majority of these "hot rumors" are likely originating from Houston as they desperately try to create the appearance of a hopping market for Harden's services.

Depends on the price.

I could see Ainge pulling the trigger on a Harden deal if he could keep Tatum and only add a couple minor pieces/picks to Brown.

Depends on how Ainge views the Celtics window and if he believes they can win the East.

I wouldn't trade Harden for Brown straight up...

... which isn't to say that Harden isn't a better player in a vacuum.

Real world isn't a vacuum, though. When you factor in contract, age, head-on-their-shoulders, etc.... we should keep Brown and look to use the trade exception elsewhere... 10 times out of 10.

There is just something not quite right with the Celtics.....they are a good team, a really good team to be honest but can't quite make it to where they want to go.....

As long as you keep Tatum.....Brown, a player and a few picks (you have a lot) for Harden gives you 2 studs and some nice role players. It might be Boston's best chance the rest of the East is continually improving.

Terrible. We go from a tough, cohesive team to one with Tatum and Harden jacking up questionable sh!t.

It's 100% a better plan to keep Kemba, Smart and Brown and look to add an Aaron Gordon or something like that at the trade deadline.

Another way of looking at it is that the Celtics have overachieved given their youth and injuries these past several years...

... only now do the C's have Tatum and Brown entering their young primes... (they are 22 and 24 respectively).

For one thing, the C's no longer have a treasure trove of extra draft picks... that well is dry.

Harden and Tatum give you 2 studs, yes... but 2 studs with highly questionable shot selection. It's not a recipe for success, IMO.

Additionally, Brown just keeps getting better and better each year... and he's on a great contract.

yeah that’s why, to me, Danny should’ve probably traded up than just gave away that last first rounder.

he went very safe in recent drafts. Although going boring and safe was how he got his rep for main food picks outside the lottery (with Tony Allen and the vastly overrated delonte west)

bur he definitely needs to hit big or make one big move.

I still think he’s trading theis by the TD since they cannot afford him long term. Curious what kind of package he comes up with to find that last piece

Only thing I woyld trade for Harden is a package centered around Kemba, Smart and picks. I’m sure that isn’t enough for Houston...fine, I would not give up Brown. He seems to be improving every year

I disagree... I don't want Harden in green for any trade that Houston might theoretically sign off on... here's why:

Compare the following 2 scenarios: 1.) Boston trades Kemba, Smart plus a youngin' and pick(s) to Houston for Harden and 2.) Boston waits until the trade dead line, gives up no major pieces, but instead trades 1 or 2 youngin's, plus 1 or 2 picks for Aaron Gordon (for example).

Which is the better team?

Scenario One:

Harden
??
Brown
Tatum
Thompson
+
Very questionable bench

Scenario Two:

Kemba
Brown
Tatum
Gordon
Thompson
+
Bench steadied by Smart

I think Scenario Two is clearly preferable... even if you like the individual talent in S1 more, the fit together is questionable and there are BIG character/cohesiveness concerns when you throw a Harden into the mix.

I think the Pels could be a dangerous team and fight for a low playoff seed. Seems like they have an identity finally but we will see
